Uploaded images are brighter on page than fullscreen

Post by Forb »

Uploaded images are being made slightly brighter and less saturated when being resized for on page viewing. When you click to see full resolution everything is fine.

I took two screenshots and made a gif:

The post was for skin tone accuracy and it's currently misleading because of this.

Your original image has an embedded color profile (Adobe RGB). Most browser adjust colors based on embedded color profile. When resizing the original image to a smaller thumbnail, the forum software unfortunately removes all meta data, including the embedded color profile. Therefore the different colors between the original and the resized image. I discovered the missing meta data myself two weeks ago because of missing EXIF rotation info (https://www.dollforum.com/forum/viewtop ... 5&t=106691).

Can you try to export and upload your image without embedded color profile? Or try sRGB instead of Adobe RGB.

I had a feeling it was color profile, and you're absolutely correct, it is.

In photoshop I changed to sRGB and the image looked exactly like the sized down one.

I then went through photoshop's profile conversion tool to get to sRGB.
It should look correct here:

I don't remember seeing this before, is it a new development? Would it be possible to strip only the location data from the EXIF?
I can only imagine this is affecting quite a few members and with photography being so important here this seems like a big issue.

Thank you very much Tsall!

Sorry for the late answer. As Nescio said in my linked post:
Nescio50 wrote:... This issue occurred after we changed some settings and updated a software component because of a security issue. All is fine at The Doll Album, The Harem forum and CoverDoll, we are working on the remaining issue at TDF.
So it was never intended to remove any meta data from the preview images.

Hi Forb, this bug is resolved. Resizing doesn't remove meta data any more. Can you please validate?

Awesome, and my pleasure.

Ok, here is a new pic using the Adobe RGB (1998) color profile:

woohoo!
Just looking at the EXIF of the resized image on page I found this <photoshop:ICCProfile>Adobe RGB (1998)</photoshop:ICCProfile>
:glou:
Cheers!

EDIT:
Confirmed visually.
As before, here is a gif made from the resized on-page image and the full screen image.
