You need 5 approved posts before new member restrictions are lifted. This and other useful stuff is explained on our welcome page:

Ah I missed the little tidbit on newbie restrictions on the PM section shortly after making my account and quickly skimming through the guide. Thought it only restricting the action of sending a PM and replying to one was no problem.

Please know that all Rules of Conduct do apply to PMs.

Lately we have noticed increase of PM abuse, new members starting to send unsolicited commercial offerings, simply SPAM.

TDF has a zero-tolerance policy against spam. If such a PM is reported, the sender will be banned without notice.
