Re: Sanhui is lying about the weights of their dolls

Post by Chronos »

I just weighed the doll directly on my 2 scales and got 78 and 80 lb (35.5 and 36.4 kg). What I should've done to begin with but I didn't think she could stand on her own 2 feet (with me barely touching her).

The doll is nice except for her being so heavy. I haven't done whoopee with her yet because I get worn out after dressing and moving her around. And I'm not in bad shape, I'm not young or an athlete but I do lift weights, including squats and dead lifts, at the gym. This doll will be one of the best you can get, in my opinion, if they got her weight down, hell if they got it to 30kg. :|

Another issue with a heavy doll, especially with such a soft body is it is easier to damage.

Chronos: As you stated, you lift weights at a gym. Most here don't, but I am sure you would agree that lifting 70 or 80lbs of weight at a gym is easier than lifting a 70 or 80lb. doll. It is comparable to lifting a person that is an invalid. And the doll can't even say when you are hurting her. So a little difference in weight, particularly for a person with back issues can be a big deal, that is why a person should never purchase a doll without speaking directly to the vendor or manufacturer that they are making the purchase from and discussing the things that really matter to them. I always advise people to get the information that really matters to them in an email and keep that email, because then the doll either meets the specifications that you and the vendor/manufacturer discussed, or it does not. "Just My Experience" yours may vary.

But this kind of information exchange is good for both the customer and the Vendor/Manufacturer, as it can stop misunderstandings from ever occurring in the first place.

I sent him a pm, stating a similar message. I guess it can't hurt to say it here after all. It's a fun post.

I'd like to help out, but I don't have a scale. I'll try to remember to get one the next time I go shopping.
笑. It's good for you.

The difference in weight may not SEEM like a lot on the surface, but when we're talking about dolls; it can be HUGE.
You are 100% correct.
I work the medical release desk and I always ask people, "Do you know what the difference between MAJOR and Minor surgery? "
After they answer, my reply is , "Major is when they are doing the surgery on you, MINOR any one else in the world."

I don't really want to confuse the issue here as the points made are valid and must be addressed!
However, the BBC television One Show did a programme on 'how accurate are your scales'. Even the most expensive bathroom scales can be 3% out and the worst was 8% out but they did say they could be as much as 10% out! Try testing at least two different known weights on your scales before trusting them to be accurate! The heavier the object the more the discrepancy! It's like the speedo on your car. Most people know that they read 10% faster than you're travelling so if you're travelling at 55miles an hour on the clock you're actually doing 50 miles an hour!
As I said, I don't want to add to or confuse this issue but make sure your scales are reading as close to being correct before presenting this as evidence! My scales are useless! However, I just use them to regulate my weight so I know if I'm putting it on or taking it off!

chronos i never doubted that yours was too heavy, i just said that mine seemed about right in weight so the problem exists but it cant be "proven" to be a huge industry problem with just a few data points to back it up. BUT. if someone has been weighing dolls and knows for a fact (because they have data to back up their words) that the industry has a problem, of course i would concede and stop being the doubting thomas that i am.

There is nothing wrong with a bit of scepticism towards what you call anecdotal evidence as way too many flat out wrong statements get hyped into facts these days.
However, you may want to consider that vendors usually have an interest in selling stuff and are therefore at least slightly ill advised to discourage customers from buying dolls due to incorrect( too low) weight specifications.
Imho, if more than one vendor - all of them known for delivering excellent customer service - tells you that their data show an industry problem then the likelyhood of them being right is significantly higher than your scepticism being valid.
I would like to ask everyone not specifically referencing Sanhui or the OPs issue to move to this follow-up thread opened by BCD in the members section:
http://www.dollforum.com/forum/viewtopi ... 87&t=76649
as it is much easier to talk about the problem in general over there.

Kind regards.
