How about making the doll eyes open & close when lying down?

Post by dave7311 »

There is a manufacturer that has done this ( open / close eyes ), but not realistic.
Several 18 inch dolls have this feature ( much smaller ), like American Girl Dolls
& many more smaller dolls.....I believe this would be FANTASTIC if you did it !

Hope I don't get in trouble for sharing this: https://youtu.be/Eu-di7y3Scg
( of course the howling feature or batteries not needed or required? ...LOL )

just my 2 cents

yes my two lower end modified dolls have closing eyes they came with and it is awesome when you lay them down and see them peacefully sleeping. wish they would have an option for them in these high end dolls. when you sit them up or stand they open. very realistic and natural and makes sleeping with them so nice when you see her eyes closed and your holding her in your arms. a nice touch of realism.

I think blinking eyes would be a big step in realism. I don't think it would be a huge undertaking. Think about the little $50. remote controlled cars that the kids get. They have little servo motors on them for steering. You could get the servo motor to cycle for half a second at set 5 second increments, and have a gear system that rolls a cam that blinks the eyes. All controlled with a remote. With 3D printers the prototyping would be time consuming but not a huge design challenge.

Maybe a camera can be installed or other? ( w/ $ in hand anything is possible )

Personally, I would be pleased w/ the eyes just opening & closing .
(= maybe a wink or two on occasion.... would be a nice touch =)

I am curious to see my landlord's reaction ( as he is saying 'hello' to her )

I guess it depends on what you use the doll for. If just for realism, it is an option. But I just look at such mechanical features as something else to break, especially if the doll will be seeing a lot of play time in bed. I can imagine reading complaints like, "I got jizz in the eye and it froze up and stopped working." :(

You might look into MannequinFans replacement eyes. They can be closed or opened or anywhere in between. Not sure if they would work for your particular doll though.

I can only second this. The eyelids don't close on their own, but like Broven said they offer you more options... i don't think he makes them for Sanhui though. Might want to check with him.
I think Sanhui's factory eyes already look pretty damn great though

The ability to open and close them whenever you want is definitely something all manufacturers should look into, much like Mannequinfan has done with his kit. I would however not want them to open/close automatically depending on the heads angle. That would just get awkward for many poses, especially when photographing.

And yea, I believe Sanhui still mostly has a more primitive type of eye that isn't even able to be moved. They got something new going on though, but only released on one head I think? Someone has to correct me on this. I do hope they catch up on this soon!

The question is directed to SANHUI ( all your opinions and pertaining are indeed valued )
They are re-molding, re-sculpting & so on, so they requested suggestions on different post.

Awaiting their reply (also)............

" Nice! " .....I do not think ( IMO ) the line above eye is necessary, but nevertheless
' She L@@ks Great! ' .....Thank You for sharing

I believe the open / close feature would be invisible :

So I just got MF Eyes so that my DS163+ can close .. its not motorized or anything .. but honestly simplicity is best. You can read about them more here.

Dave - I wonder if what you want really makes sense. Wouldn't you want it sometimes that the doll lies down but keeps its eyes open too? Something automatic might make sense in some cases. But not in other (??)
