I'd tell newbies, the pics you'll receive from the factory once your doll has been completed are for verification purposes only. Typically, these are just quick cell phone shots taken on the fly. Unlike the studio shots found on most vendor websites that were taken by professional photographers under ideal conditions. Don't worry though, your doll will look much better in person.

The factory photos I got of my first doll were exciting but not that great. However what I got out of the box was much better and I had a couple of photos I took myself that turned out way better than what I received from the factory, especially with no lighting and no makeup other than the factory makeup and they were taken on my cell phone. She definitely looked a lot better in person. That's just my experience and it may be different than others.

Normally, they wash and powder the doll before photos so do not be surprised if she looks lighter than in real life.
Most vendors will send you them and it should be up to her owner to decide if she can fly off or not.

On a practical side, examine the photos carefully, and check to verify that all the options you requested have been rendered properly. Of course, certain things, like shrug shoulders are impossible to verify unless the doll has been posed to highlight that feature, for example. But hair, eye, lips color, pubic hair details, etc., can be.

The last doll I ordered had several of these options wrong, so I'm glad I noticed and reported them for correction.

Factory photos are never flattering. Cell phone photos are wide angle and distort everything to look too big or to small.
Like Nanako says. Check to be sure everything is accurate for what you ordered. That is the best purpose of these photos. Just don't count on them to look flattering.

The Factory Photo is your first introduction to that Lovely Gal you have paid your hard earned money to have Made and then finally sent to your home or storage space if you can't send it home...
Yes examine the photo carefully to make sure she meet your expectations...

When posing the first doll I bought for the photos, whoever set her up put her wig on too far back, which made it look like her forehead was abnormally large. It was all fine, of course; but that's the sort of detail that can be deceptive, and not in a flattering way.

That the factory photos are probably closer to what your doll will really look like, at least when she first arrives home, than the professional photoshoots on the vendor sites.

:evidence: I've never seen a post from someone complaining that their doll didn't look as good as in the factory pics.

Thank you all for taking the time to post your thoughts.
IMHO, the BEST PLACE to find factory photos if searching for a WM doll, can be found here on lovedoll UK

Check and make sure all the details of your doll are correct (make-up, standing/nonstanding, and eye/hair/vagina/areola/fingernail color).

If your order was for something special, like no finger wires, ask your vendor for a video to prove so.
Pictures will not show that of course.
Best,
Jeff

A video is definitely better than photos. Ask them to upload it to a google drive or where ever.

And most importantly, don't be afraid to say NO, that doll is not good enough!
