Thank you deerman, so far it's a lot of fun to touch her and get a response.
All the best

Here's something you can talk to that's closer to real AI than the run-of-the-mill chatbot:

Due to some of my philosophical and privacy conerns with any cloud based software I began seeking out the components for a DIY solution to take a doll and give it, well somethng, but not AI (we are centuries from real AI, provided no setbacks to civilization, sorry to say).

Goals:
Aside from power requirements, the improved doll should make no demands on the user.
The doll should not initiate interaction with the user.
The doll should not discuss anything outside of interpersonal intimacy (physical/faux-emotional)
The doll should recognize its "master" independent of other 3rd parties
The doll should respond to physical attention with audio cues.
Aside from powering the doll "brain" nothing should exist outside the physical structure of the doll. (e.g. charging cord)

The combination of software & hardware I've compiled so far are just the beginning, relying as I often do, on other trailblazers. Not having abundant free-time it's an as-I-can project, but I thought I'd share in case others want to start their own journey.

I have been trying for quite some time to get a simple chatbot to work on a raspberry pi. Unfortunately so far I have failed at every attempt to get any speech to text system to actually work! And as for complete chatbot software like alice or jasper I haven't been able to get them to even come up!

If anyone gets something like pocket sphinx to work on a raspberry pi I would be very interested to know how you did it. I say pocket sphinx because it is functional with no internet connection. Or at least if you can get it to work!

Thanks!

I assume you've seen this: CMU Sphinx on RPi? Those Carnegie Mellon folks are pretty bright.

Note some of the limitations in the FAQ.
