Is this design different than what is currently being used in your dolls?
How does this design specifically address some of the back break issues that have been posted by other members?

I'm glad to see that SM is continuing to improve their designs and appears to be accepting of community feedback and criticism.

Personally I have not had issue with the back joint of my SM doll despite extensive use over the last 6 months.

Jack, keep up the good work!
It's always a pleasure to see the latest developments from SM.

Does the welded skeleton get thermal stress relieve after it is welded together?

When two pieces are welded together, the molten hot weld cools quickly. As the weld cools it shrinks, also known as thermal contraction.
This shrinkage adds stress to the weld joint. This would explain the random failures. Some joints will be under great stress from the thermal contraction and be very weak as a consequence.

Thermal stress relieve will nearly eliminate the stress at the weld joint. If you don't already stress relieve your skeletons, I would suggest looking for a local Steel Heat Treating company near you and ask for a salesmen to come over to your factory and see if he can help you better understand the process. Thermal stress relieve could be an inexpensive way to improve the strength of your skeletons.
