Traveling with Original Teddy Babe
Approximately what size of case or box would she fit into?

Re: Traveling with Original Teddy Babe
When you say original, I assume you mean the 4'2" version. Do you know the exact year that she was made? Because the very first ones (2006-2007) were a little shorter than the later ones. I think they were in the 3"8'-3'10" range. Which would make them a little easier to transport.
But in any case, I have a large 50" duffel bag that I used when I took mine out of town with me last year. That was actually big enough that I could carry her fully stretched out. Although you could squeeze her into something a little shorter if you fold her legs back at the knees. I would avoid trying to bend her in half or anything like that as there might be a risk of damaging her.
I guess it could be done if needed, but doing so would make me a bit uneasy. Not to mention making the Babe extremely uncomfortable!
Girlfriends are for guys who haven't found the right doll yet.
I feel much better now that I've given up hope.

She just needed to bend her knees to fit inside, and enjoyed having a pillow and blankets during the journey.
Again, this was for an original/standard-size Teddy Babe, not the Deluxe size.
Re: Traveling with Original Teddy Babe
I was told she was an "original" Teddy Babe and that she comes with all accessories. I don't know anything about her condition. I was lucky to find her. When I first joined the board I thought I'd check out the For Sale ads, as I'm new to dolls and I wanted to see if any were for sale in my area. I came across an ad in my city where the poster was selling a silicone doll but also wanted rid of two cloth dolls for free. He'd already had a couple of potential adopters who disappeared at the last minute. I was already planning on buying a Teddy Babe so it was a good opportunity to give one a "test drive".
Tomorrow promises to be interesting. I don't have a 40" duffel bag, so I'll be going with Plan B which is to put some clothes and shoes on her and carry her on my lap. That's assuming she can sit down? If not she can "stand" between my feet. Anyway, I've set aside a long hoodie, slacks and shoes for her. Another issue is that I'll have to hang out somewhere like a coffee shop for a couple of hours after I pick her up, because it will be the height of rush hour and they don't allow large packages on transit during rush hour. I may end up just taking a cab home, even though it will cost close to $100. Since the doll is free, I don't mind the cost to get it home.
Once I get her home I will have to post pics. I've already read the thread on how to clean the Teddy Babes.

So cute !!!Zang wrote:Sekhmet, funny you should ask; just this time last year, I went traveling with my original-size Teddy Babe, and she fit comfortably inside a wheeled suitcase/duffel bag (40" size is good).

Hmm that might be an idea as well. I'll bring a trash bag along with me and see. The good news is it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow so I shouldn't have to worry about keeping her dry.Mr Franz wrote:You could probably just slip an original size Teddy in a large trash bag until you get her home.
Are the original Teddy Babes capable of a sitting position?

Re: Traveling with Original Teddy Babe
When I arrived to pick up the Teddy Babe, the guy gave me a huge, sealed box. It was so heavy I could barely lift it, so I decided to take a cab home, even though the fare was over $100 from one end of the city to the other, in rush hour. Not bad considering what I ended up with for free! I took it out of my doll fund.
When I got home and opened the box, I found a tangle of two different kinds of arms and legs - there were two dolls inside. He gave me his anime doll as well as the TB. The anime doll is quite heavy, that was why the box was so heavy. They both appeared to be in decent shape, though stained. There were also two wigs (the TB wig was still in the original package) some clothes and lingerie, and the "inserts" for both dolls. There was even a heater. (Ick - I will probably throw all of those parts out! They definitely looked used.)
I immediately took the dolls to my bedroom, put tarps on the bed and got ready to clean them. First I sprayed them down with a mixture of hot water, Woolite and OxyClean. I let it sit for about 15 minutes. I have a high end steam cleaner which does mattresses and upholstery, and has adjustable steam settings. I used it on the lowest steam setting, to sanitize their "lady parts" and the worst of the stains. I started with a small area on the inner thigh to make sure the steam wouldn't harm the fabric or stuffing, before going ahead and doing the rest. After that I sponged them down with warm, clean water, then vacuumed them with a Shop Vac to get some of the water out. TB is mostly dry now (lady parts are packed with paper towel), Anime (bigger and heavier) still has to finish drying.
While they were drying, I tackled the wigs. The TB wig, a long red-brown wig, was in good condition. The other wig, a blonde one, was in terrible shape, a pile of mats. I washed both wigs (wig shampoo and conditioner) and tried to detangle the blonde wig, but the ends were fried. I've now given it a new haircut, just below shoulder length. Here are the ladies cleaned up and in their wigs - TB is wearing a high quality one from my collection until hers finishes drying. I put a casual dress on TB and brought her to the living room couch. Immediately she was besieged by cats. I expected that. They took to her immediately and are taking turns curling up in her lap or sleeping beside her. My lap is deserted! So now I will have to do a bit of research on the anime doll, to find out who the manufacturer is. I can tell one of her shoulder joints is dislocated, I don't know if it could be fixed or not. The rest of her seems to be in pretty good shape other than the stains.

There's a thread on here somewhere about fixing joints on those. I believe it was a Dagmar hip joint shown, but it's the same manufacturer. Shoulder may be a bit easier to fix as I think the outer fabric layer unzips down the back.

Thanks! You just saved me a lot of digging! Yes she does have a zipper down her back. I just tested all of her joints and it seems only the shoulders are loose. Hopefully they can be fixed. I just put her in a dress and she looks quite nice!Mr Franz wrote:Congrats! Great score too. Glad everything worked out. The animie doll is made by Happy Doll:

Glad to see once the TB was cleaned and dressed the cats took to her like another couch human. Now they just need names (the dolls, not the cats ).
