TPE head on a plush body?

Post by PlushLion »

Was just wondering if anyone has tried it.
I really want to have a lifesize doll, but due to price/storage consideration I'd like to try buying a TPE head and making a skin-plushie body for it. Good thing about plushies is they don't get damaged if stored folded and thus my wish to experiment.
If anyone has tried it, please share some pics here so I know if its even worth trying so I don't just buy a detached head, make some abomination out of it and also limit my future options for a possible doll body.

Also, if you have both plushie and TPE girls and some spare time, mixing body and head and taking a photo for me would be greatly appreciated =^_^=

These are things to consider:

1) TPE leaks oil, which will ruin the fabric. You would need to have something in between the materials that does not let oil through. That damn grease seeps through everything, I swear.

2) You would have to find a head that would be easy to attach to the body you're making. Slide in would work best but I don't know any TPE heads that have that kind of mechanism.

3) If you are going for a skeletonless plush, please be aware that full-sized TPE heads can weigh between 1 - 2.5kg. If you don't have a sturdy skeleton, this means that any upwards pose is impossible, as the head will constantly fall to the ground along with the torso. Barring having the doll lean against a wall in a sitting position. But even then it will be difficult as the head will be trying to fall sideways too.

4) Silicone heads will eliminate 2 out of those 3 issues. Especially Private Island Beauty heads. But with that price, you could buy a Dagmar fabric doll with a silicone head.

Thanks for the reply.
1. Doesn't storing them separately remove that?
2. Was looking at this WM doll head: http://dollforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=128&t=91233 at the for sale section when I thought I'd ask so it would mainly be a choice of availability. How exactly the attachment will be made will have to be figured out. I'm an engineer so I should be able to find a way. Some appropriate nuts fused on wire or sth.
3. I don't think it will be skeletonless, but I'd definately have to do something more than a plushie wire skeleton to keep it looking good. Standing, probably not, but will try to make her be able to take sitting poses.
4. Again, availability. I think I'll stalk the for sale sections here and in UKLD forum for something appropriate and something I like (no point in a head I don't like). Will certainly keep this, and the other 3 into consideration. Thanks :)

1. No. It helps to not have prolonged contact but the leaking is constant. For example I put my TPE torso on top of a cardboard just for a while when I was fetching a storage box for that and the cardboard had a torso-shaped grease stain all over it. In just few minutes.

Same thing with TPE-based inserts. I originally put them on top of a cardboard box so my tower fan could help drying them completely. But the cardboard was all stained after that. TPE just can't help itself.
