Template Area Expansion in Photoshop:

Sometimes you might need more references in your template to see what's going on better with an eye. That will require you to expand the canvas area by going to IMAGE > CANVAS SIZE. In the New size dimension boxes type in how much you want to increase the height and width of the Template. In the example below I increase the width only expanding towards the right hand side. In order to choose which way you want the area to increase you click on the Anchor area arrow that is opposite of the direction you want to branch out. (In my example I wanted to expand towards the right therefor I clicked the middle left hand arrow.) Click Okay. and the template will have a solid color area off to the side or sides of your template.

Pictured is my #122 Head in Tan skin tone. Very happy with her! However, being the stickler for eyes that I am I noticed the blue eyes she was shipped with were a little akward looking so I switched them out with the extra pair of gray eyes I ordered with the head.

Iris alignment tips: The Factory eyes don't come with an easy way to figure out the intended alignment of the eyeballs irises/pupils. Thats why incorporating a tiny alignment registration dot on your iris design will make it easier for you to get the natural look transferred to your dolls eyes . Below is some tips for figuring out how to properly align eyeball irises.

Sclera Color Note:

When painting the sclera color ("White of the eyes") add a few drops of the suggested color to white paint. Add just enough to change the white paint's color slightly making sure it still seems a light "white" but not chalk white. The sclera will blend better with the iris that way. Don't paint the sclera with the recommended color at full strength unless you are trying to achieve an unnatural appearance intentionally.

Thanks Avante! I have not made any yet unfortunately lol. I have made the molds of the new 1.25" wooden balls I got in though so I can convert them into plastic similar to the factory eyes. Between that and taking a few pics and making irises. The weekend flew by lol. And after doing the eye swap over the weekend I see what you were saying about posing the eyes. I found myself a bit nervous at first as i didnt want to ruin the makeup or the eyelids! haha..SO its got me thinking about the lense idea.. Although im leary that the lense look might be to artificial looking for my tastes. But yea Im going to try and get a set of eyes made sometime this week hopefully. Probably wont get around to actually putting them in the head and taking pics though as this weekend i might have to work and then super bowl on sunday.. but we'll see! I don't want to rush any aspect of such a delicate project. And I agree on the Nicole Aniston comment!

I made some 3D printed eyes for my realdolls using a similar magnet idea from MF and removable irises. They look quite good, and I even used red yarn and made veins. That really helps look good.

I will try your iris pics and see how they come out. Mine are ok, but could be better.
