"Nutmeg" I see what you did there! YAY! A BETA fish! Oh man! CL and I LOVE those! I've had five! All of them named The Baron. But they were all cool and different!

By the way, our congratulations to you for winning podium places in Cat. E & X photo contests. You have X Factor. CL should dedicate a separate thraed for you rather than you being overshadowed by your big sisters.

That's a lovely coloured Betta.
It's been while since I kept an aquarium and I'm sure a colour like that was not available.
Betta's can be kept in a smaller tank because they have a unique labyrinth organ that allows them to gulp air from the surface and extract the oxygen.
However I always kept mine in a larger tank because I'm a big softy and like them to have room to roam.
Despite their name they are actually a friendly fish and can be kept in a community tank as long as there is no other Beta.
If you want to him flare his gills and get into his fighting stance, put a mirror close to the tank for a bit.

Our Better flares his fins a lot of times even without a mirror. May be he sees his image on a lot of surfaces - glass wall, ceramic plant pot, pebbles etc.
May be just his testosterone making him erect a lot of times.

What a beautiful fishbowl! I live Tom grinning in at Better. We used to live where there were lots and lots of peacocks! The feathers do really look like a Beta!

The Companions

Today is the full moon day of Ka-soan on Buddhist calendar. On this same, special full moon day Buddha was born, obtained Buddhahood ( enlightenment ) at age 35 and passed away ( Parinirvana ) at age 80.

Like most Buddhists, we celebrate the most sacred day spiritually.

May there be peace for all.

'In Steve's life, Tom and Better may be loving companions to him
But Little Buddha is his longest spiritual and physical companion.'
