Is the head post ball joint a different size on these slightly smaller dolls?

All the heads I've tried, the socket is too big for the ball joint, and they just pop on and off.

I've put some electrical tape around the ball to make it a bit bigger, and that seems to be doing the job for now.

Is this normal ?
