So Here is my attempt at making a hat....
Started with tracing an existing hat to get the size. Cut the center and made
sure it would fit the largest head I have and then cut a strip for the band and stitched it into a circle.

I found a ball the correct size of the head and sat it on an eggcup. I glued the band on the top..
I am now waiting for the glue to dry before I can proceed further.. *sigh*..

Once the glue was dry I stitched the band on as well. I cut some V shapes out of the top, laid a bead of glue
and folded the top down, holding it with mini pegs.. More waiting for glue to dry...

I didn't like how it looked so I cut the stitching out, pulled it in and carefully restitched the top, the back is now the front..
If anyone has ever stitched leather you know it is quite difficult as it is thick and does not expand like material does when you
pull the needle thru. I even managed to stitch my thumb to it... lol.. didn't even notice at first.. hehehe..
Once that was complete it cut out and glued on a piece for the top.. At this point I am still not that happy with the result..
It is actually a little to big for most 1/6th heads now..
Truth is I think the leather was a little to thick.. But of course the
first attempt is always trial and error and the hardest one..

Once the glue on the top piece had dried I stitched the top.. One broken needle later, three pricks in my
fingers and it was done.. Cut the band to hide the stitching on the rim and glued that on as well..

A quick trim of the brim then last but not least a fancy machine stitch around the edge.. but in all honesty
I'm not that happy with it and i don't think it suits Sam.. But i am a perfectionist..
Will I make another one.. If so it will be a completely different design and I may just use felt instead.
Bearing in mind I have had the leather and all associated tools threads etc for over 20 years, the total cost
is Zero $ and one broken needle...
