Help with head wobble.

Post by Arthur1960 »

I know this has been covered before but I just wanted to share what seems to work best for my gals to cure the inevitable head wobble. I have tried a variety of metal and rubber washers and have finally settled on using small rubber O rings which seem to be just right for this particular job. So I've used O rings with an internal diameter of 16mm, they are made of nitrile and can be used either singularly or in a combination of 2 or 3 depending on how the head sits when you screw it down. Most of my gals seem to be facing forward with 2 O rings in place. So see attached pic of the rings with some PTFE tape for the bolt thread.

Here's a pic with the bolt screwed in to the neck (tighten in with a pair of pliers then wrap a little PTFE tape on the threads). Here you can see I've placed 2 O rings over the head bolt. Then you just screw on the head being careful to stop when you get some resistance, if the head isn't facing forward then simply add another O ring till it is. Since I've done this with my gals their heads feel much firmer in place.

Hi Arthur, you are almost all the way there, these also assist - felt washers

and also do four things,

1. act as a spacer to ensure the dolls head faces forward when reasonably tensioned,
2. free up the torsion movement,
3. arrest the wobble and,
4. also quieten the neck noise.

trust this assists.

I just fashioned a washer from some of the Styrofoam packing material my doll came with. Works fine. No wobble at all and head stays taut in any position.

I use the magnetic connectors and deal with a bit of "wobble".
What is the BEST way to seat the head using those?

I use a combination of the O rings and felt washers but seem to struggle finding the right fit.

I like the wobble.

She seems more alive when playing with her and her head moving around some.

Good ideas here, I hadn't known of the felt washers, and making them from packing material seems great.

I've noticed when using black washers, over a time of 6+ months some of the color can slowly leech into TPE. For TPE dolls I recommend never using dark colored washers.
