I ordered my heat gun, it'll be here tomorrow!
Looking forward to seeing if I can improve my flat iron repair.

I have another tutorial beyond this one going into great detail of using a soldering heat station.

I have a feeling I will be very happy I came across this thread! Thank you Mischa1975 so much for all of the knowledge! Before I retired I was in the electronics industry and used heat guns and solder irons, and consequently have all the tools already. While I’m hoping I never get damage, I think it is better to be prepared! The face repair was fascinating!

For that repair, you can try cut out the bad skin and place a graft of new TPE and weld it in with a searing hot blade..then smooth over with a heat gun

That's perfect. You have the soldering skills already.. I am just learning how to desolder IC chips from boards for repair, and those tools help me there as well!

thanks Mishka! 8) Think I´ve all required stuff at hand and about to start with that very soon. First had to remove more of the stained areas bordering the cuts and damages.

These will be my TPE repair tools and hope these suffice for the various TPE repair tasks. Is there any alternatives for sandpaper or did it proof best for all post texturing?

Good luck and take it real slow and practice on spare material first..
Sandpaper has worked the best, but make sure it does not come apart and ruin the repair with bits of grit.

I wish I could try to repair my WM doll myself but I can't really take her outside for what I need to do. She has a few skin abrasions on her left arm and inner thigh.

I know using lots of baby oil and a heat gun will smooth it out but I would need ventilation which is just my bedroom or bathroom with the intake fan on. So am I SOL or can this be done inside?

Thanks

Thanks again! Practicing I´ll do in any case, both on the original manufacturer TPE pieces and not so visible areas like foot soles. I´ll see if I find optimal melting temperature as I can freely select from between 90 to 480° on the soldering station. Thus I´d decided to not yet invest in the IR gauge. If I can avoid overheat while working on the TPE I´ll likely have less problems when working indoors for which ATM I don´t have any alternative.

Got to buy some sandpaper then. Thought I´d recalled seeing a video with microfibre cloth as sandpaper alternative. I might try anyway, just to get some experiences.

All your videos and threads were a big help already! Without it likely had turned more beeing a big tragedy and grief, not just a challenge with big chance of repair success as is now! :glou:
