Thank you FP! How long do you leave the area alone after a repair to have confidence it should hold? Hours? Days? Weeks?

An hour should be enough on a large repair.
TPE sinks away the heat rather quickly.

Thanks, and be careful of the glue. I have never had success with glue and generally made things worse, and for that reason I made this tutorial. now I also have filmed some more footage of more serious repairs that I've successfully repaired using this technique and this video will be published very soon .

Thank you for your work, Mishka. I subscribed to your YouTube so I can see all of your tutorials. Good job!
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is.

A successful knee repair thanks to Mishka and Anung. The cut remains visible (barely), but let's just say a vigorous stress test was performed, and there was no sign of the repair losing integrity.

One small note... if you practice on a small piece of TPE the way I was, your melt temperatures may not exactly match the work you do on the doll. Mishka is spot on that you want to look for "glassiness". If you look even closer, you can see the surface levels of the TPE start to "run" just slightly. I oiled/ reheated/ pressed about seven times to make sure the subsurface layers had rebonded, not just the superficial layer. This is the tricky part about repairing cuts, compared to surface level abrasions.

One other thing I noticed, is that after the material has cooled somewhat but not entirely, you can carefully touch the cut to feel whether the separation has actually reconnected. It doesn't take much pressure to tell. If it hasn't, you have to oil/ heat/ press until it does, otherwise you just have a shallow layer of TPE "covering" the cut, instead of the cut itself actually disappearing. Think of a scab where the skin hasn't actually healed over yet.

Obviously I felt like an idiot for causing the cut in the first place, but it felt great to know it could be fixed. Really appreciative of the time people take here to share their knowledge.

A tidy repair, and even more smoothing can be achieved, unless you like her scar for character.

Got a couple of much more minor nicks to work on. Maybe I'll give it another pass or two when I do.

The damage repairs to the TPE itself can be very light or heavy depending on the damage and the TPE material itself.
I can say the perfect work from your side MISHKA :-)!
