Fingernail polish vs. fake nails

Post by HSP_960 »

I have several questions about polish for a silicone doll's "fingernails" and "toenails":
1. Will fingernail polish damage silicone?
2. Will fingernail polish remover (e.g. acetone) damage silicone?
3. Is it better to use fake fingernails?
4. If so, can you recommend some products

Thank you!

Nail polish on a silicone dolls nail bed can be absorbed into the silicone. Nail polish also gets hard and the flexing of silicone will cause it to break off.

No, Acetone won't harm silicone. It is used as a cleaning and prepping agent for repairs but don't overuse.

Any type/brand of fake nails is fine. Whatever you like and they are available in different sizes. Revlon is a brand that I have used.

Apply with a drop of Sil-Poxy.

That sounds permanent? Is there a more temporary method?

Not that I know of. It's the only substance that will adhere them, you don't want them coming off. It's one of those things, you want nails on your doll or not, it is kind of a permanent decision. You can paint the fake nails if you want to change color or style and they can be removed and replaced if the need or desire arises.

Makes sense. Thanks for the tips. I've been wondering about this for a while.

Anytime.

You can paint the nail beds with silicone paint if you want to go that way. My Boy Toy is like this. Two of my dolls have nails (they do look great, really bringing life to the hands) another that I want to do but she is the one that I play with and they just wouldn't last.

@siliconelover: Thanks for the info! My Sanhui 145's "nails" seem small compared with a RG. Should I shop for "small" nails or nails for girls? Also, will the fake nails become permanently bonded to the doll's fingernails if I use Sil-Poxy to apply them?
Is it better to paint the fake nails before I glue them on?

PS: These nails seem inexpensive and perhaps they're small enough to fit a 145cm doll: https://smile.amazon.com/ECBASKET-Stile ... %2Bon&th=1

Your thoughts on them?
