So I have two main concerns with the 3D printed plate. Heat and solvents. The two ways to close the hand after adding the plate. I can melt ABS with TPE glue. Heat may work as long as it doesn't get hot enough to melt the ABS, but it could be tricky. I'd be afraid in either case of welding the ABS into my TPE. That would not be good.

I'll see if I can test out some of the principles with some sample TPE and ABS, but I'm really busy these days. Too many things going on already.

I could make that type of plate out of brass in a couple hours.

My concern is the stranded wire when it's frayed will chaff on the inside of the tpe fingers without knowing until its too late, causing permanent irreversible damage. with solid wire when it's broken you know it instantly. Nothing is ideal. I have seen some model airplane parts being used but they are fragile, however they are cheap.

Hit Doll made an articulated finger, but my rep there said they ended it due to it's fragility. You can buy it still if you request, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Wires, unfortunately still seem to do the best.

I think the solution to the fragility of articulated fingers is to attach them to the hand plate via slightly recessed magnets. Large forces will disconnect the fingers at the magnet before breaking the finger.

Those are good points Grim.
The ABS I used melts at around 220c (+/-400F). I have a feeling that TPE is probably slightly lower.
For solvents, you could simply wrap the hand plate in a polyethylene film like Saran Wrap to protect it.

I'm working on a Printed version of the palm plate too. Using PLA, I've tried the Preparer from Indigo20's Comfort kit directly on the PLA and it dries to a whitish film, doesn't seem to do anything to the material at all. Which is good as that is my preferred method of manufacture. Ive found a double sheathed single strand wire which is 1.45mmø I have to strip the outer sheath and then it fits snugly in 4mm brass tubing. Im going to try encapsulating the whole lot in heat shrink tubing an see how that works. Ill be fitting the wires to the palm plates with modIfied PCB standoffs and 3mm grub screws. I find a dab of nail varnish will stop screws from undoing, not quite as permanent as locktite, use it on my motorbike and its fine. I want my mod to be maintainable as possible. Even if the wire breaks, at least it won't rip her hand to pieces. the standoffs and grub screws have arrived. I have tube and heat shrink on order. I might be able to make a prototype this week tho'.

Just a quick shot of the white residue of the solvent on the PLA, the PLA itself appears to be unaffected. The paper cutout is the proposed new palm plate. Size is roughly the same as the one shown by Mannequin Fan, as I used the sizes from his model, by and large.

PLA would have a lower melting point though. But yes it should be more resistant to solvents.

MF has some good points, I'll have to try out.

Personally I would not recommend PLA for this as it is too brittle.
Not sure what the benefit of the set screws are, but whatever works for you.
There's not going to be much material around those 4mm tubes that attach to the palm plate unless you make the plate really thick.
The whole thing really needs to epoxied together solid or it's just going to break when you bend the fingers.

Time is the problem for me. I can give you the other set of plates I started if you want them. They don't have the holes drilled or tapped. I won't use them. I might try something different.

I'll be an ass too and say, I could make brass ones up for me when my time allows me. I am offering you a set I already have several hours into. : :haha4:

So you can make these in a couple of hours. In Brass. That is what you said.

MF gave you his design.

You are not offering to make them. And you shouldn't at this point.

Sorry WWB that's my opinion.

You're making these for you.

I do have 5 dolls. Not everyone is out to sell other people stuff. It took me 3 months to put together these. That I am getting into the part of the year that i am never home except to eat shower and sleep.

Maybe later in the spring or summer when I slow down at work. Hit me up
