Any video for applying baby oil?
Re: Any video for applying baby oil?
Remember that makeup is not permanent, so be careful with the face, nipples, and kitty. The oil doubles as a stain remover, so it will have any coloring rub off very easily.

Do you mean something like White Mineral Oil or Pure Mineral Oil? Would these be a safe replacement for baby oil?MonAmour wrote:I've had several email exchanges with Indigo about oiling. I trust him implicitly with his knowledge on this topic. Do not use baby oil, it has other chemicals in it that can be harmful to TPE. Use a good grade mineral oil; you can find this in the pharmacy section. You only need a light coating and allow it to soak in. I'm also on board with Arthur's recommendations.

Wait what? This is contradicting what was previously said in the big thread by Indigo and Hansdampf21. Mineraloil based babyoil with few ingredients is what's been recommended for years, while white oil is less recommended due to not being as easy to manage and health risks. Here are some quotes I have saved in a document:MonAmour wrote:That's correct.devion wrote:Do you mean something like White Mineral Oil or Pure Mineral Oil? The mineral oil from your link is paraffinum perliquidum = white oil.
The viscosity of 15 mPas and 68 mPas is showing it. (mPas = miliPascalseconds)
Pure mineral oil with that viscosity brings a saturation to the TPE material that is 2-times or 3-times higher than paraffinum liquidum with viscosity above 200 mPas.
Baby oil with isopropyl palmitate (thickener) has about 400 - 500 mPas.
BUT
1.)
It is very expensive.
2.)
It is so thin that you are not able to apply it with your hand.
It runs down between your fingers.
You have to use a big cosmetic brush like a kabuki brush.
Therewith you have to apply the white oil very thin on your TPE doll.
3.)
It takes much longer for being absorbed.
Baby oil is absorbed from the TPE material within 30 minutes because it is thicker.
The white oil needs about 90 minutes to 2 hours until it is absorbed.
4.)
It is not allowed to refill the white oil in a pump spray bottle !
Breathed in particles of white oil inside the lung cannot be expectorated !
Go with the white oil if the mentioned points 1.) to 4.) are acceptable for you.
If you like it easier and cheaper go with the unscended baby oil mentioned from hansdampf21.
And for making it clear to the community:
I did not mention white oil in the past because it is too complicated in usage and it is very expensive.
And it includes a health damiging risk if sprayed because someone is trying it that way.
In addition white oil has no care function for the human skin.
Baby oil with parafinum liquidum is cheap, available in lot of stores, easier to handle and has no risks.
And some words about the recommended ingredients.
Mineral oil has the following label names:
- Paraffin
- Microcristalline Wax
- Petrolatum
- Ceresin
- Paraffinum liquidum
- Cera microcristallina
- Vaseline
- Eucerinum anhydricum
Make sure that it is included inside the baby oil.
The next ingredients are most:
- Isopropyl palmitate
>> thickening the baby oil and a moisture factor for human skin
>> that effect keeps the mineral oil inside the parous TPE material
Parfume
- Aloe vera
>> TPE keeps the smell of parfume, aloe vera or the typical Nivea creme smell
>> you can use this effect to make your doll smelling like a woman using care products
>> add a bit parfume of your own taste to the care products and the doll keeps that smelling because it will be absorbed together with the mineral oil
>> enhance the effect with parfumed powder with the same parfume = an additional cover with parfume smell
So Isopropyl palmitate is fine. This ingredient helps to thicken the oil and keep it inside the TPE is my understanding.
So for example, the most recommended and used baby oil is the Johnsons pink bottle (if I remember correctly), with the simple ingredients of Paraffinum liquidum (mineral oil), Isopropyl palmitate (thickening substance, to make it easier and safer to use), and Aloe Vera for perfume (there are perfume free variants as well). Nothing harmful as far as I've heard. But of course one should avoid other variants and brands that has a range of other stuff in it, and especially vegetable oils and alcohol.

Re: Any video for applying baby oil?
The mineral oil (high quality white oil) has 64 mPas, it is a bit thicker as baby oil and it has no thickening agent (like isopropyl palmitate in baby oil).
It is the perfect monthly TPE doll care (better as baby oil).
The flavor will be noticable only for a short time after the first treatment, but after 3 months the TPE will keep the flavor.
You can do the mineral oil care twice per month, if the TPE is of a firmer type.
Soft TPE blends should only be treated with mineral oil once a month as they already have a high amount of mineral oil "on board".
Nord, the quotes from Indigo you share above I'm not familiar with and may have been posted before he had his oil available. I know he has told me about some TPE brands not responding well to the use of baby oil; from those quotes you offer, he's saying that baby oil will do the job but may not be the best option.

Re: Any video for applying baby oil?
Seriously, Indigo is right, but extreme. In our usage baby oil is fine. In fact, you'll find many people use an array of products that rocket surgeons might stray away from. I just used a whole tube of Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Cream on a brand new doll to remove the factory makeup. I'm sure a few people here would question that, but so far my results are as expected, and are great.
It comes down to a product that does the exact same thing, as far as our outcomes are concerned, versus a higher priced product that is "safer" for your doll. I do it myself. I sell Jinsan TPE Solvent and Stain Remover on my website. Are there other, cheaper alternatives available? You bet, I use them, when it makes sense. I use the Jinsan products also when they make sense.

Re: Any video for applying baby oil?
It has the tickener Isopropyl Palmitate included.
If you are using babyoil for the work with your heat gun, the thickener can cause a smearing effect.
I use white oil 15 mPas for repairs.
Maybe I made a mistake while I talked to Don / MonAmour about the different versions of mineral oil.
If that was given, please excuse.
Now to make it clear:
Babyoil > monthly care
White oil > repair
As I said, I use white oil 15 mPas for repairs.
It is included in the TPE repair kit and soldering iron attachment kit.
And I'm using white oil 68 mPas, it is thicker as babyoil and has no thickener.
I make my own fragranced white oil with it.
But please, please, please, do not start again with a "wild and unnecessary" discussion about mineral oil.
Guys, please, think logically.
Think for the material...and not in an emotional way because of the shape it has.
