Alternative to Johnson's Baby Oil?

Post by Jehuty »

I am not very fond of the "fragrance" added to Johnson's baby oil and baby powder (pink caps).
Who uses alternatives and what are they? Is there a "free-clear" mineral oil of the correct formulation? And talc?

Talc is no good. Respiratory irritant and causes cancer.
I use Johnson's lavender scented cornstarch powder. Smells nothing like regular baby powder as I don't like that smell on my doll either.

You can also get USP mineral oil in the pharmacy’s digestive section.

Just to point out...the whole cancer scare thing was isolated to the states only...nothing was heard here and nothing is happening here. (just adding that for any members outside the states who wish to use it as i do).

And further to that...any possible cancer link was suggested to be in women using it in the genital area and possibly causing uterine cancer. So I think your doll is safe. Now you may find talc, because of the minerals contained in it, to be more of a lung irritant if you're sensitive. The trace amounts of asbestos naturally found in talc though have been removed (in US) for about 40 years now.

Personally, I also use the lavender scented J&J cornstarch powder because I like it better than the talc - I think it less caking and less of a slick/slimy feel. That's just me.

I always thought that talcum powder was avoided for TPE dolls because it's meant to be made up of little granules that would irritate the doll's flesh and cause micro tears.

I can't remember where I read that, or even if it's the truth, but since I have a large container of it, I'd gladly use it once my baby powder ran out, and people here can verify that they've used it without damaging their doll.
