Thanks Karrot for this very detailed wig care tutorial, i just got my first doll today, 5 days early :haha4: and one of the first thing i had a challenge with is....the wig... its already a mess so ill put your instructions to good use!
Are there any specific kind of wigs that wont loose as much hair, they fall really fast and stick to Natasha...= (
and i am definitly NOT going to vacuum many times a week lol!
How do you guys manage...

Welcome mate. ditch the original wig and get on Ebay for a FASHION wig. Anything made with Kanekalon / Japanese Synthetic Fibre. Usually cost 15-40 bucks depending on what you go for. It will be a huge leap in quality over the manufacturer provided wigs.

Putting her hair into a basic ponytail will save a lot of night time wear/tangling as well

I really think doll companies should change the wigs they sell us, its just a waste of money and polution to sell us junk that we know will end up in the garbage wayyy too fast, anyway, ill mention it where i bought my doll for sure.

Very well composed tutorial Karrot!
I'm not trying to one-up you at all here, I just want to share what works with a wig that you may feel should be thrown away because it's so bad.
My first doll's wig was a beautiful wavy curl long wig that unfortunately as soon as it was moved it would tangle.
I mean literally just moving the hair at all would severely tangle it up, I gave up.
And like you said in this thread is to have a "bed wig", and that's what it became.
Until it literally turned into the paradigm of a self sustaining fur ball.
I had to do something, it was so badly damaged from all the brushing it was completely frizzed.
So I took some of the wife's conditioner and along with some water
I saturated it and was able at least attempt to comb it out with a detangler comb.
After a ton of frustrating work I then used a modified technique that I found on the web in a cosplay forum.
There it was said to use a spray bottle with water and conditioner mix, a brush, and an iron.
I saw the item that my wife insisted I get for Christmas was an iron and a brush.
I'm always just going to try with what's at hand, and since the wig was already wet with conditioner and water, I plugged the sucker in and set it on low (still hot enough to burn my finger) and went for it!
After brush ironing it it became soft and straight, of course I ironed out all its curls but what I ended up with is now a really soft hair wig that I literally can get a fine tooth comb through, even after sleeping with it loose a few days I just need to take the detangler comb to it and its back nice again.

Here are pictures of the products I used, the conditioner really worked in this case, I had some that the wife didn't like so I tried that first with not so great results.
This stuff did do good, there is probably better I'm sure but I was happy with how it turned out.

Good Tips and a cute lady too :D

Hair Straighteners can be used (on a cool setting) on Kanekalon and Human Hair wigs, but not on cheaper nylon party wigs (just melts it in to a mess). Steaming the wig can also be used to de-tangle, straighten, and revitalise a wig. If you want to put some curls back in to her wig, simply use a round brush or hair rollers, then pass steam through the wig. Once it cools remove the rollers and the curls will stay in.

I used steam to pull out the tightness of Faiths curly wig and give her a new style

Thanks Karrot, I guess that's really what I'm doing is steaming it by using the iron with wet hair, really turned it into a usable wig.
I was worried that the wig would melt but it didn't at all.
Love the pics of Faith, especially the after!

Can anyone recommend an alternative US product for Synovation fibre oil? Seems that brand's only available in the UK and I really don't want to find out what happens if I have a bottle of liquid shipped overseas. :P

Thanks for the info Karrot! Is "oil free" an important consideration or does it not really matter? Turns out I'd already bought this product:

https://smile.amazon.com/Awesome-Synthe ... M4RW7&th=1

Is that more or less the same thing?

Also found this one:

https://smile.amazon.com/Brandywine-Oil ... ds=wig+oil

The oil free one will condition the wig, the brandywine oil will add a sheen to the hair, but overuse will make it feel greasy and increase the need to wash the wig, which isnt really worth it for a cheaper synthetic wig.
