Will it make a difference for the wig if you are always brushing it? Will it become shinier?

Hey Karrot, Thanks so much. I had just washed Sawyer's hair for the first time and was having trouble getting it brushed out because of all the tangles. I looked on here, found your GREAT and lengthy tutorial, and now she has perfectly brushed hair. It doesn't look like that last effect, but it no longer has tangles and is much better than what she had before reading your advice. The only thing I would add (I don't THINK you said this, but I could be wrong) is that after her hair was dried somewhat I mixed a weak solution of hair conditioner in a bottle with water and sprayed it lightly over the wig before brushing, careful not to get any on her skin and wiping away any that got past me. That helps the hair to brush through much easier and lends a bit of control unconditioned hair doesn't have. I learned that years back in my youth when I had hair longer than Sawyer's lol.

Thanks,

NakedSanta

A tip i found was to put about an inch of fabric softener in a spray bottle with water, shake, then spray on the wig

no need for expensive wig conditioners, as this stuff cost me $2.50 a bottle

Takes me about 30 seconds and all knots are gone

I'm glad this thread is still proving useful.

You are both right, hair conditioner or fabric conditioner mixed in a weak solution will help the wig brush through as you are basically adding a mild lubricant to the fibres. Bear in mind that wig fibres (unless its a human hair wig, then it all changes) wont absorb any of the conditioner, so the weaker the solution the better or you could end up with a greasy feeling wig.

What would you suggest is the easiest way to remove curls from a new wig? I just got a nice, long-haired, Igennki wig that has curls (well, more like waves, than actual curls), and I'd like the get rid of them, if possible. I'm reluctant to resort to an iron, since I have no skill with them whatsoever. I wonder if simply washing it will do the trick? Any ideas?

Steam. Simply Steam it over a kettle or pan of boiling water, and brush it whilst in the steam. You can style Kanekalon wigs this way as well, adding curls, waves, partings etc

just wrap your arm up so you dont scald yourself, then hold the wig in the steam, you'll see very quickly that the waves and curls begin to drop out. Just brush it in the steam and it will brush straight.

This is also a great way to remove the frizz from an older wig.

Worked great! Thanks for the tip. I brushed the wig over the steam for about 15 minutes, then my old arms gave out. It's completely straight now, except for one little curl, that stubbornly refuses to relax. Well, I suppose that will take care of itself in time.

Thanks again. BTW, the wig measured a bit over 2 feet, from its top, to the bottom of the hair.

And this is what I signed up for, this exact thread. Thank you for the information.

I was on the verge of buying two new wigs, but with the information in here I was able to get them looking as new.

May end up buying the new ones ANYWAY, but now they aren't urgent-replacement.
