I need RTV silicone glue in NL / EU

Post by Tiriaq »

Does anyone know a store in Holland for Silicone Glue (not just silicone) that is RTV and not so expensive like Silpoxy in Holland is asking 50USD or something for 3oz
I don't know anything else besides Silpoxy that I can trust and mine is almost running out. Also it's a few years old now.

Go to the local auto parts/repair shops. They have silicone. Flowable windshield variety. Can you order rtv online by ebay or some other avenue?

Here in The Netherlands the only online shop selling Sil-Poxy I found is FormX and I paid EUR 35 + tax + shipping (so more than EUR 50) for 3oz.

I also have a tube of Shin Etsu RTV silicone glue, a Japanese product I got from 4Woods Europe. It has a much longer cure time than Sil-Poxy (24 hours). Great stuff, but I don't think it's easy available over here.

Sure you can try silicone glue for domestic (or car) purposes, but you have to be careful and experiment if it's (too) hard or soft. You might use hexane to soften silicone RTV glue, but also hexane is not easy to find.
BTW, if you need primer, I successfully used Bison silicone primer, which is available at local DIY stores.

My first attempt at repairing a RealDoll some 10ish years ago was a disaster because I used cheap silicone. I recommend purchasing something that is specifically designed for the job even if you have to pay a bit more.

Silpoxy is only shipped from their dealers. I tried a few years ago from foreign countries and the shipping button is never lit for outside their territory. Also not when asking or the shipping is insane.

Car shops are bad in these things but I can try. I asked a few companies about it but the datasheet is about an A4 long with all the different options you can choose and it's not even an option for the price. Those are highly professional companies.
Holland is very small and a lot of stuff we just don't have it. Taxes also do not allow us to try, we just have to be dumb and everyone must do the same thing the other one does. Going outside of that zone will cost you Shippingcost+the item cost+21% tax over those 2 + 14USD clearance cost and above 150 euro it will be 2 or 3% extra over the itemcost

I am using Wacker Elastosil E4, an RTV-1( meaning single component, using moisture out of the air as the 2nd component to cure) silicone rubber and am satisfied.
According to specs you have about 15 mins to do your work( never took me more than 2, so I can't comment on how much longer it still behaves good) and then a 24h cure period.
Note that the company produces a heap of different ones( other shore hardness and safe elongations, different fluidity ) and also three different cure mechanisms depending on what byproduct is produced denoted by the letter - A, E & N.

They do have 2-component systems as well.

Kind regards.

25 euro, almost sounds too good, must be some shipping also? I just registered to another Kaupo shop, they really need to know everything just to see the price. This could be great info. I'll check them both. Thanks friend!
I did find a shop but didn't buy there yet, one shop in all of Holland besides FormX

Damnit the paypal checkout is loading for 15 minutes now aaarghhh, so stressed out from all these things going wrong. Going to continue try to find out the shuttercount in my camera

Okay f it, I ordered it. Had to refresh the page which can always be dangerous with paying transactions but I htink it worked. It was 17 euro but total amount with shipping was 31 (including the VAT) *sigh*

At least it's not 50+ friggin euro at FormX

The only alternative I found was indeed from Elastosil but I only found the 41 and 43 or something, liquid and more solid. I asked a question if it could glue silicones together and they wanted to call me but I wrote down everything I needed to know so I postponed it and then saw this German shop. I hope its true! Then I'll stay with silpoxy

Me again...
For the Elastosil E4 there is also a german shop:
http://shop1.r-g.de/art/415170
but they take 19,50 € for shipment to NL.
I might try that by myself
Cheers

Glad GirlsGang provided you with a source of Silpoxy at a reasonable price - hope that's all you'll need.

As for the silicone from Wacker - take a look at the various stuff they produce and choose the one with the properties you are after - there is a heap of variety there, so no need to use E4 if you may find something better suited to your task; the person that I got the initial knowledge from used E41 for his purposes.

Kind regards.

Yeh but I need some kind of store having it here already or shipping it reasonably. And I'm not familiar with the specifications, the store that sells it here has a very short spec like it's liquid fluid for instance.
Most people here would hand me silicone kit I'm sure because Silicone glue is really unknown here.
