Fixing the jaw!!

Post by siliconefun »

Hi doll friends,

a new modification for RealDoll & Boy Toy dolls: fixing the jaw!

We need:
- 3 mm (1/8") felt, self-adhesive.
- hole punch tools: 28 mm & 8 mm.
- #8 flat stainless steel washers.

The finished washers:

These washers were made on a professional hole punching press.
You will need 2 each per doll.

The original skull looks like this:

After moving the jaw a few times the screws will loosen and it doesn't rest in the desired position.

The felt washers provide more friction between the skull and the jaw. The flat washers on the jaw mounting screws are added to reduce the pressure on the plastic part.
Tighten the screws with moderate force until the jaw will hold the position.

The jaw in action!!

Hope soon to see your dolls with open jaws

Very nice improvement. I hope abyss sees this and adopts it ASAP.

The moving jaw and oral system IMO is one of the few real (but huge) advantages realdolls have over others and they should really make it as awesome as they can.
Every day people remind me why I like dolls better.

I just tightened the jaw on mine. The limitation seems to be the silicone face which does not stretch as well as other body parts.

Hi DarkOne,
you're right, the jaw and oral system is a state of the art feature on these dolls and it allows to do so much funny mimics and facial expressions (the posable tongue is an additioal +).
At least its an inexpensive improvement when implementing in the production flow.
Thanks DarkOne!!

Hi Begog,
that's true, the inclination of the head and the silicone face makes the limitation of the jaw opening. The flat washers also prevent that the screws move with the jaw positioning.
Alternatively a drop of Loctite screw fastener will help.
Hey Kwench, please don't bite Begog!!
Thanks Begog!!

Hey, just found this on the web:
RP-0122-PF_fix-filzgleiter28mm.jpg
These 28 mm self-adhesive felt pads are available in local hardware stores. Note: 28 mm is the max. diameter to use. You only need to make a 5/16" hole at the center.

g'day, SF
