So ends a nearly 40 year career selling and servicing bicycles. It’s been a long strange ride. Sure… I’ve taken a few years off from it here and there… but I always inevitably returned. Hopefully, this time… walking away will stick.
But I’m not gonna call this a “retirement”… lol.

It’s ok tho… because today’s conditions are PERFECT for my snowshoes… and I’m game for whatever Cedar has in store. I’m sure she’ll make me tromp deep into the Forest. But that’s fine… because with my snowshoes on…
I feel like I can walk over anything!

But with my snowshoes on, I kinda feel like I’ve got magic feet too. I took a detour straight through the tall grass in the meadow just because I could… even though Cedar wasn’t out there. I’ve missed this…
The last two Winters were so mild that I don’t think I used my snowshoes at all. Plus, the lakes and marshes never froze… so I couldn’t go stomping on them either.

Thanks to my snowshoes, I’m standing in the marsh… next to the boardwalk by Hidden Lake. I knew Cedar would be here… posing in the small dead tree next to the platform. Throughout the year, whenever I come to this place, I long to get close to this little wooden sentinel… just a few yards away.
But it can only happen in the snow!

As I expected… I’m feeling a little destroyed this morning.
Today will be a rest and recovery day. I spent almost 4 hours outside snowshoeing with Cedar yesterday… and my body is complaining. But, it’s the good sort of aching… the kind that says I’m getting stronger.
Walking in snow with snowshoes requires more energy than simple hiking. Fortunately, it doesn’t require any more skill. Snowshoeing is just walking… and this is why it’s become my favorite Wintertime “sporting” activity.
Especially since the Minxes arrived!

Wintertime jaunts into the Forest with my Luvs require other preparations too… not just strengthening my body. Every trip outside lately I’ve been steadily dialing in my clothing and equipment choices. Yesterday’s trek was almost perfect… from a gear perspective.
This is important… because soon I hope to be heading north to stay in a cabin then afterwards, visit my pal John. Being able to spend a whole day outside in the snow without the comfort of returning to your own bed can be a challenge. Only a couple things need to go very wrong to spoil an entire trip.
Cedar has a good time abusing you and looking sweet and innocent while doing it Hope you have good time visiting John, but I bet than Cedar will magically appear!

At least her beauty makes me forget the pain!
I suspect Cedar is planning on doing a LOT of traveling this year. I wonder if she’s gonna have special “vacation” outfits???
