I recently asked Sanhui about Canada customs and the Marya #8 head...

I hope this answers questions for others interested in Sanhui too!

Absolutely! that was what I first thought of when I saw that face.
And honestly, this would never even have been an issue for debate if they hadn't picked that stupid name for that face. Someone in Sanhui's marketing department fucked up.

I ran a pic of her through How Old am I app and it showed 23.

I didn't realize this doll was debatable. What idiot is suggesting she was too young?

Of itself, I wouldn't say the Marya face is too young, but including the word 'Lolita' in your website description, (Marya de Lolita of Fantasy), does tend to give that impression.

So you can't get past the name.

Just saying, despite Sanhui's insistence Marya is patterned after a game character that is supposedly 21, the word "Lolita" has an entirely different connotation for many and is perhaps not the best marketing strategy if this is not the impression you wish to convey.

Yeah “Lolita” just begs scrutiny, which is why I felt the need to ask.

Agreed the term can have negative interpretations especially when considering in conjunction with the 1955 novel novel of the same name

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita

Potentially Chinese marketing is not aware of this affiliation.

That said the 1997 film of the same name potentially did not help matters, even though the actress was over 18 at the time of production.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita_(1997_film)

Irrespective of the term, the doll herself, who is actually based of the DOA 5 video game Marie Rose, is fine for an adult representation, as the dolls perceived age can be attributed to an identifiable character that is over 18, she was 18 in 2013, that makes her character now 23.

That is what I mean when considering context and theme.

I don't think it works that way with animated characters. Bart Simpson has been 10 for the last 29 years :)

The head in question is fine, but I can't totally agree with your line of reasoning. Nowi from the videogame Fire Emblem Awakening is a 1000 year old dragon. But I bet you would get problems at customs with a Nowi like head.

Sure I get it, Lily was OLD when NOAH was in Nappies, but is still a babe (gratuitous suck up line).

The thing with this doll, is the character the doll is based off is declared at 18 from the concept, irrespective of years passed since 2013.

Anyone consider the cultural differences? Asians age so differently than Caucasians. Their 21 year old girls can easily pass for 16. So maybe they just make all faces a bit on the younger looking side without bias? Just a thought.
