Hi Tyr,

Hands arrived!

They feel as though they have more wire, and less palm plate to them, but I have a set to dissect so we can see the insides.

Hi Tyr,

They attach just like regular hands.
You can see from the image, that I folded the TPE of the forearm part of the hand back on itself.
I unscrewed the stand (1) - which used the same fitting as a doll hand-forearm.

I took a detached forearm from a JinSan doll (2) and screwed onto the hand, with ease.

So the tricky bit comes from cutting the TPE and re-welding it back together, to have the doll arm and the new hand look as new.
So Tyr, are you still interested?
It doesn't look too hard a job to be honest.

I could do with a set also, but i would be more likely to send my doll to you again Phil, as if i tried it myself she might end up with 2 coat hangars for hands :?

No Problem,

I can't guarantee a perfect TPE colour match, but it should be close enough with a good set of hands again.
Bear in mind that the fingers are just wires and will break if subjected to stress, so we still need to be careful with doll hands.

If you want me to do this for you, I will need to know the JinSan skin colour of your doll, and will be able to do this for you.

Put me on this list. We are very active and always going out. It seem that i have mangled her fingers trying to fix them. I am willing to replace them self.

I will.

Unfortunately, it seems that these hands are a necessity.

I will produce a video as to how this is done soon.

Hi Phil,

How did the hand fitting go? I'm very interested in getting a set myself if they're available. One of Lynne's hands is sadly beyond any kind of sensible repair now, and I think this will be the best solution. Not sure how skilled I am in fitting them myself given the mess I made repairing them originally!

Not a huge problem if the colour match isn't perfect, she's a late 2017 "natural" skin. If necessary she can wear a bracelet or something to hide the join a little.

Hi Muninn,

Fitting them is easy - a bolt and a couple of nuts to secure it in place.
It is the TPE repair that needs a bit of care, which can be done with just TPE glue, a cocktail stick, and a sharp pair of scissors (to prepare the wrist join).

Is she the older (Oriental) Natural skin colour with a yellow hue to it, or more of a (European) caucasian/pink tone?

Excellent Phil, the TPE glue I can deal with, the hot air method I had a lot of trouble with, it seems to have degraded the TPE on the hand (all the other areas I've fixed are fine though).

I'd say that she's more of the pinkish western natural, but it'd be ideal to take a better look in daylight (which isn't so simple in November :D ). If it pins things down she was one of the first with the shrugging shoulders/bending waist as standard. If the difference is slight I wouldn't worry too much, a decent pair of hands will be so much of an improvement!

i would love to have new hands. Does it matter that I have a YL doll? Same factory isn't it?

Yes,

All WM, YL, and OR are JinSan so all are compatible.

I would like to know how easy it is to weld the TPE of the arm back together so that it doesn't break later.

When working on the replacing finger wires, the best solution i came up with was casting new hands.
Mechanically the replacement is very easy. Just slide new hand bolt up arm tube.
... but then comes an impossible task for most people, joining the new wrist to the old fore-arm.

Now, the reason for replacing the whole hand was that plastic finger bones needed a greater area to hold position, and thus wouldn't fit into the old cavity.

Currently i am working on a jointed piano wire solution, as a wire-finger and wrist plate replacement.

I'll have to do a video and publish it so people can see the process.

This is an epic development! I might opt for this method instead of try to complete the patches on Hadleigh's hands.
