2022.03 Covid-19 cases in China affecting doll production

Hi all,
The covid-19 situation becomes stable in many western countries. Things are getting better in Belgium

Sanitary pass is no longer required in restaurants or bars

Despite the improving situation in Europe, Guangdong province in China is facing a historic all-time peak according to google. Guangdong is one of the most developed provinces in China that offers most job opportunities. Many workers from other provinces go to Guangdong for work and they only go back to their hometown once a year to be with their family during the Chinese New Year - a break of 2 weeks.

Most doll makers and logistics companies that specialise in doll business are in Guangdong. Many of them are short of workers due to the increasing covid-19 cases. We learnt from 3 different sales contacts that they were forced to stay home (we will leave the names out since they were informal communications). The flight case factories could not send flight cases to Guangdong last week for one of our orders. The local government cut the logistics chain.

The only doll maker that officially announced the extra production time is fabric doll maker and they announced an extra of 15 days in addition to the standard 30 days. Based on our past data, we confirmed that the production time is longer. We publish this message here is to be transparent of the actual situation and let you understand why your orders seem to take some extra time.

China has always been very reactive and disciplined for dealing with covid-19. We are very confident that the situation will be back to normal soon, hopefully in March 2022. Let’s hope people will get better soon.

Dear all,

Please be aware that the local Shenzhen government released a new regulation today that all businesses (except for supermarkets, hospitals and medical shops) have to be shut down for one week from the 14th to 20th of March. This applies to all doll factories and logistics companies located in Shenzhen. The local Chinese government might extend the restriction period if the covid-19 situation is not under control.

The impact to the doll business:

Most of the doll makers are in Dongguan, the production resumes as long as no covid-19 case is identified.
There are many logistics companies in Shenzhen, no packages can be sent in and out of Shenzhen.

The impact to MRD clients:

Our logistics companies specialising in delivery to the America is not in Shenzhen. Therefore no impact for American clients.
No shipment this week for European clients since our logistics company for Europe is in Shenzhen.
For the moment only Gynoid announced to us on March the 13th that they are stopped even though they aren't in Shenzhen. The remaining doll makers resume until covid-19 cases are discovered.

Covid is here to stay forever. You can't stop the inevitable. Herd immunity is the only way..

Where I live things are normal. I went to the movies the other day, packed theater, no masks. I went to concerts in the winter of 2021. No masks. Even everyone I know who got omnicron got over it fast like it was a mild flu/cold...

15th of March Update:

Dongguan city will start the partial lock down tomorrow and it is regulated by industrial district and by town.
Many factories located in Dongguan received notifications today and were asked to stop for one week starting from tomorrow, such as Elsa Babe, XY Doll, Aotume Doll. This restriction will delay the doll production.

Update March 21st:
Shenzhen is unblocked today. All logistics companies get back to normal.
Factories we are working with are back to work today. Production resumed.

Update September 9th 2022:

Since beginning of September, UPS tracking numbers remain at "Label Created" status for 5-7 days without updates for the USA.

Unfortunately covid-19 cases are discovered again in Guangdong province.

Some cities such as Shenzhen was in a weekend lockdown last week, same thing happened to Dongguan where locates most of the doll makers. UPS could not pick up packages so it took them some extra days to have packages move from "Label Created" to next status. The bright side is that once your package is picked up, it should take less than 5 working days for you to receive it.

At the moment we are only talking about a few days delay but we don't know how the situation will evolve. We publish this message to keep you informed and hope that this message can ease your worry.
