Re: Meet Harley!
TYSM! He's quite the bundle of joy.
Re: Meet Harley!
Harley was a bit dusty and oily (curse you, TPE), so I got him halfway dressed, and he headed over to the bathroom to freshen up… He caught me taking pics lol Washing his hands! Side note: While he was in there, I placed him on a scale for the first time. After four measurements, it seems he weighs 90 fucking pounds (unless my scale is misbehaving again)!!! He’s only supposed to weigh 79 according to Spartan Lover, so no wonder I find him so unmanageably heavy.
Anyways, here’s the final fit. This top is way too big for him (hell, it’s baggy on me as well), but it’s what we have. Waiting for dinner to be served… I decided on spaghetti for dinner because it seems so fitting, since Harley is so skinny that he kinda looks like a spaghetti noodle I added the fireplace thing to set the mood, but I later remembered that I had this in my Christmas decoration stash… So, we lit a synthetic candle for my synthetic sweetheart.
Dearest Harley, these first 6 months with you have been amazing. I can’t wait to see how wonderful the next 6 months will be. I love you, my sweet little spaghetti noodle

Re: Meet Harley!
Lovely pics and so good to get a different perspective on doll ownership. Harley is also unusual compared not just to female dolls (obvs ) but also the more muscular male dolls, he's slim, slender and genuinely adorable!
Also, re the last hand-holding pic: very nice nails on both of you

We did indeed!
Thank you, from both of us, for your kind words! Harley is indeed a bit of a rarity, so he really stuck out to me when I found his pictures. I wish there were more options out there like him, especially in silicone (I’m currently looking into getting a 2nd doll, and there’s literally only one silicone model that has my preferred body type).Michaelangelo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 3:09 am Lovely pics and so good to get a different perspective on doll ownership. I also like how the factory did his nails, as some factories use the same nails for male dolls as female dolls, which doesn’t always look right.

Re: Meet Harley!
Overall, this a very well done head. I really like the realistic look of the implanted lashes, brows, and hair vs the glued, drawn, wigged TPE head.
I also like the durability. I can tell this head won’t be so fragile. I also found it easier to attach to the body, since the jawline is firmer and can be pushed on without moving awkwardly when applying torque to turn the head.
The color match is very close (it actually looks closer in person than on camera).
The head is, unfortunately, not the same size as Harley 1.0. The face is a little taller, and the eyes are larger. There was no way to tell that from pictures, obviously. Also, the manufacturer didn’t use the same eyeballs on Harley 2.0 as they did the original. These new ones are a deeper brown, have a yellowish hue in the whites of the eyes, and have blood vessels. I was hoping they would have the same eyes so that I could look into the eyes on either face and see the “same person.” Only time will tell if I will be able to convince myself that both of these faces represent the same persona that I know as “Harley.”
For those experienced with silicone, I have questions:
1. How do you move the eyes? Every time I tried moving them, they recoiled back in the opposite direction that I intended. The TPE head doesn’t have this problem.
2. I tried to powder the head to improve the feel and help it match the TPE body better, but the powder won’t rub in like it does on TPE. It just clusters on the surface and looks kinda bad. Is this normal for silicone?

I'm not experienced at all with silicone but you may want to take a look at Starpery's spring loaded moving eyes as well as MF creations easy move eyes, both of which seem to be popular for less hassle adjusting eyes. I'm considering them myself!

Re: Meet Harley!
To move Harley's eyes, you can use a pencil with an eraser on the end; It's much easier than moving them with your fingers and there's no risk of damaging his eyelashes.
Some eyes have a spring mechanism that makes movement easier (my Zelex Saaskiya silicone head). Others just have cotton behind (my Trixie TPE head and my Eurydice silicone head) which makes the eyes less easy to position.

Re: Meet Harley!
Agreed
I’d like to try properly powdering it to lighten the color slightly. That said, my phone camera seems to exaggerate the color difference considerably. In person, the colors look essentially identical in most lighting, so I’m not too worried about it.carbohvdrates wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 3:38 pm The silicone head is so nice! The shade is ever so slightly different but maybe a light powder of foundation in the right color family will do the trick for you, or even airbrushing if you have the tools.

I’ve long been interested in aftermarket eyes. Although, I fear that removing the eyeball could tear the eye socket. The silicone is much less stretchy versus TPE. I’ll need to do further research.
I tried it. Unfortunately, the eraser left a smudge on the eye because I applied too much force. It turns out that the eye moving problem is specific to the left eye. It seems the factory put way too much cotton behind the eyeball, making it impossible to move. I pulled a chunk out with tweezers and finally got the eye to go in the desired direction. Unfortunately, in the process, I scratched the surface of the eyeball pretty badly and pulled out one eyelash.

Ouch! It can't be nice!SpartanLover wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 6:09 am This is how they move a silicone doll's eyes at the factory.
I see they do this before installing the lashes.
On silicone heads, I think manufacturers should immediately install more advanced eyes with spring systems even if there is a small additional cost. Since it is very difficult to change, they might as well start with the best solution straight away.
