Screen and colour settings. Standardisation ?

Post by rentell »

OK ,This question is sort of related to the TDA.

When viewing pictures in my gallery they are a lot darker than the images I produce on my other computer for transfer into the gallery.

Is there anyway of getting screen brightness and colour standardised , some sort of test screen maybe . :?:

Its annoying because I alter the image to the desired settings only to be frustrated by the darkened image in the TDA gallery's.

Cheers Ray

Some screens have high brightness, others have low brightness.

But some screens are so bright, which other screens can't even reach.

There are calibration systems for computer screens, so the color and all that is true to life, but that will only be for your own screens, the people visiting TDA will see the pictures in the way their screen shows them.

My brother for example had a very low brightness screen, even at maximum brightness, a lot of computer games were too dark, he couldn't see anything in dark areas, so he ended up buying another screen.

To get an idea on what others see, I've made a little gradient:

Image

Where does everyone see the color difference in the gray scale?

For me, I can barely see the difference between A and B, but can see the difference between B and C very well.

Now a bit darker:

At that gradient, I can see the difference clearly between G and H.

I can just make out the divide between E and F if I concentrate (and look slightly away).

A horizontal black bar. :(

Incidentally, this is the brightest monitor I have ever owned (an LG Studioworks 775E).

thanks Alex for taking the time to come up with this.

As for the first bar I can just but only just see the difference between A & B but can clearly see between B & C

The second bar is all black more less up until M&N !

So it would appear that my monitor is running very slightly lighter from those results!

The monitor in question is a Formac TFT 2021 which is a 20" screen on standard settings so maybe I should darken it down a bit.

I'm running screen res at 1600 x 1200, 60 Hz and 32 bit if that means anything ....

This screen is noted for its clarity apparently so perhaps that affects ability to see A& B.

Thanks again Alex and the other posters :)

For the first chart, I can barely see the difference between A and B, but I can see they're not the same.

For the second chart, I can see the difference between D and E but it is an extremely fine difference. Between E and F it becomes clear to me that they are different.

They sell monitor calibrators at B&Hphoto.com and they work WONDERS!!!!!!!! I have to use it on my laptop- which is off by a mile!
