How to view a stereoscopic image, and make them yourself.

Post by pitspoes »

Stereoscopic-topic: If you could only see what i see...

There is a free program to view these pictures.
... and make them from 2 separate pictures.

And you can do that too with your doll, because she will not move between the two pictures you make of her!
You can view it any method in this program.
apply crossed-eye or get a cheap red-blue glass for $2.

There are stereoscopic images on this forum. (search: stereoscopic / crossed eye / anaglyph / 3D)
examples:
80cm elf D (normal eyes, spock ears) mrt2020
Reetzia Stripping Down in Stereoscopic 3D
Dear Diary:
Stereoscopic photography

How to view
put 1 or 2 images on SPM (StereoPhotoMaker)
X - swap left-right image (when the image is 3D but just not right)
F11 mono
F12 up-under
F9 left-right
F8 shutter mode (does not work without 3D-vision)
F7 color anaglyph (red-blue)
F6 gray anaglyph (red-blue)
F4 interlace (zalman 3D monitor)

How to make
put 1 or 2 images on SPM (StereoPhotoMaker)
select your viewing method

I use F4 & <enter> big-screen to adjust with the arrow-keys till the eyes overlap.
Any other point will also do, but you begin to look at the eyes most of the time.

After that use the left-right-keys for getting it closer or farter away.

Here are two images done with a tripod so you can test the SPM program:

IMG_02_right.JPG
IMG_02_right.JPG (160.8 KiB) Viewed 854 times
How make 2 pictures
I use a tripod with a straight flat object on it.
Hold the camera flat on the wood and make sure the left&right backend are on the edge.
Make first picture.
Focus at this position (half-press the button) and keep it this way.
Move the camera acros the edge.
Make sure the left&right backend are on the edge. do not look at the view-finder.
Press the button from half to full and make the second picture.

Done.

IMG_6517-.jpg (145.3 KiB) Viewed 854 times
The move over the edge is about 1/10 of the distance the lens is from the object.
More will give more depth. 7cm distance is the eye-eye distance but this can be ignored.

I have no tri-pod!
Put legs 1 or 2 feet apart.
Make picture leaning on one leg.
Half-press button, lean on other leg without moving upperbody (camera)
Make second picture (don't look at it taking it)

Done.

All the rules of normal photography do not apply.
There is lots of empty space present, no need for even colored background.

You can put thing in front of the main subject.
You can see trough bars or a fence, no problem whatsoever.

Things can't move between the making of the two pictures, this is notice directly by the human mind.
No grass, trees , animals , a leave just blow a inch away.
For this you need something that makes 2 pictures at the same time.

The better the pictures are made parallel to each other the better the result.
No fish-eye, no zoom, move close or further away.

I can say a lot about this topic, but lets just use both eyes together.

Please leave links to stereoscopic pictures / posts / treats.
Or zip-files containing your pictures. with 1 visible image to show the content.

I love to see your pictures!

There should be a single thread or collection of all the stereo photos. I really can't see myself taking anything else any more. I'm really obsessed with them.

Viewing stereo on a normal computer.

Crossed-eye R L:
The right two images give stereo when you focus like looking at your nose or finger in front. of you.

Normal L R:
The left two images give stereo when looking at the screen as trough a window. When crossed-eye hurt your eyes use this. Your mind never has done this to a monitor so it will try to focus on the screen, just something to un-learn.
Focus on a distant object like a tree far away, the place the image close in front of you without losing the focus on the distant tree. Or place a paper between the two images so the mind can not see the other.

They also can be viewed normal with loreo (see viewer-picture), it uses a kind of prism.

$2 Glasses:

Your RGB-computer-monitor has 3 colors for each pixel, Al other percieved colors are a combination of the brightness of them combined.
Red-Green-Blue.

Red-green: Right sees Red brightness, Left sees Green brightness.
Red-blue glasses (light-blue or cyan actually): Right sees Red brightness, Left sees Green & Blue brightness.

Yellow-blue: Right sees Red & Green brightness, Left sees Blue.

Red-Cyan (red-blue) is the most common and easiest to view.

Left to right:
Box= loreo parallax
Yellow-blue filter
Red-green
Circular polarisation filter zalman
Circular polarisation filter realD
Red-cyan
Horizontal-vertical polarisation filter

No shutter glasses here.
Shutter glasses are heavier because there is hardware that blocks one eye.
The information which eye to block is send by the tv by infrared.

The model used is a JM80 D elf

I have a special lens for my camera that splits the image up i two.
I have done sessions where i try to take the picture of all faces of the guests.
And then make color-anaglyph red-blue versions of it.
I love the reactions when they get viewed! :onfire:

I gave may old dubbel-lens to a photographer-friend. When she saw the originals on my stereo-monitor she got one herself! 8O

Gaming:
I also love to just walk around in the world in GTA5. It is just like being in the streets of LA.
I don't do 'flat' gaming anymore, you miss so much depth.

Hmm... I somehow thought that 180 degree VR had pretty much steamrolled over these old formats, but seems that I was wrong... :) However would say that 1st person/vendor/manufacturer who starts to do HQ 180 degree VR vids or HQ VR images about their dolls, will certainly get some attention :) Technology is already in stage, where VR content can be streamed live with really acceptable quality. This has been proven by certain x-rated sites and adult camsites. Downloadable HQ content is obviously mind blowing. Only downside is that decent VR headset is not yet an item which everyone have, but at least Oculus certainly has made it easier to get and use with their Quest device...

Fun part with dolls is... as they don't move, one could pretty much laser scan their entire doll (or scene) to photo realistic 3D (still) model and showcase that in VR. That is then "true virtual reality" where user can walk around the object and look at the object from any angle he/she wants. That is the future of photography anyways and will displace 360 photos as soon as technology evolves bit more. They already have devices which are able to do point clouds and paint them with photos taken by the same device... Just too expensive for consumer use. As was your cell phone not too long ago... :)

True, stereoscopic is a very old format. Right after the invention of the photograph you see them showing up. I have a very old picture of a u.f.o. hiding in the clouds. 8)

Very realistic are holograms. I have the entry hall full of them. A very nice one is a airplane wing sticking out of the frame. You can look on or under the wing and left and right off it. really amazing stuff.
Far better than stereoscopic, aldo most are just in one color.

It also contain lenses. A telescope or microscope that you can see though but can not touch, those are amazing. The red barcode reader at your local shop most likely contains a hologram picture of a very complex lens set.

But there is yet no way to view a hologram on a site.

The Oculus is a very good immersive thing. I followed that when it started. A lot changed when the DOOM-engine guy got involved. There where some consumer goggles way back, but the computing power was not sufficient then.

Porn indeed does accelerate some technologies.

I don't think 360 photo's are the future. :turn-l: It is a way to look around from a viewpoint, but the focused attention forced upon the viewer is gone that way.

Back to topic: I have posted more than hundred of stereoscopic pictures of my jm80_elf
