TPE and eyelash repair

Post by oneatatime »

Last night I was getting Elena set for a photo shoot and I knocked off one of her top eyelashes. The eyelash glue doesn't seem to hold well. However the eyelashes could be replaced as well. I've seen folks use silipoxy on silicone dolls but should I use the glue sent with my doll for eyelashes?

I don't think TPE is glueable due to it's high oil content. If it can be glued it requires something special that I don't know about.

From the description of the TPE "glue" they are sending you, it sounds more like a solvent than an adhesive.
Several people have noted that it melts the two sides of the incision together without leaving a hard glue line.
Sounds very much like the chemical plastic "welding" we once did on Lanier R/C airplanes using MEK. You had to be quite careful to use enough MEK to get a good bond, but not so much that you distorted the parts.
If that's actually the case, and the eyelashes are a synthetic product, the solvent would likely melt them.
Repair ability is one area where TPE lags behind silicone, at least as of right now.
I did try using silpoxy to attach something to a piece of TPE.
No luck.

oneatatime, I had the same problem, I asked Brent and he recommended http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/sg_g_c ... ontrol.htm

I had a bottle of gel superglue with cyanoacrylate lying around so I used that and it worked fine. If the lashes are crooked, just peel them off again very very very very slowly.

Seems like there is a "war" between Silicone doll owners and TPE material, I just did an upgrade to Lilitha, I replaced her eyelashes a couple of weeks ago, I cleaned it with some alcohol the area then I used silicone epoxy and it work fine ! just look a the picures, that's how she wakes up every day, so far the eye lashes are in place.

CA glue does work.

Thanks, for the info, Gio!

Also, the glue for the fingernails should work fine, and that stuff cures very stretchy. I've used the stuff to repair Sarah's inserts. There's a chance I'm mistaking my glue for another. The glue I have has color.

I have a video of cured glue that was sent to me here. http://dollforum.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 46#p561446

I posted this a long while back.

I’m looking for someone to repair the doll head around the eyes where superglue ruined it, I’d pay someone to do this for me.
