Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is one of the protagonists of the Symphogear anime show, Tsubasa Kazanari.
The figure features a heavy amount of additional articulation points to get the full detail of her armor, all simply attached by a well placed rotating joint. The armor blades attached to her feet can rotate completely and be moved inward / outward, two small fins behind her back have roughly the same range of movement, and her unique sideways ponytail also has a rotating joint.
This is another case of liking the design of the figure over the related media, and being one of the earlier release figures (Number 199 and under) the detail isn't the strongest, notably in the paint having a shiny finish compared to modern matte / rubber-like style, but the sculptor made the effort to have the character's design fully represented in the excellent overall features.
My choice of background here also conflicts with the figure since both have the same color palette so the figure can sometimes be hard to see, though most of these show off the figure well.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is the princess knight from Dog Days, Leonmitchelli Galette des Rois. I always like adding unique figures to my collection, and the outfit this one comes with really pops out on a display shelf. My favorite portion is the purple clothing pieces, they somewhat remind me of a Helsing or Castlevania inspired design especially when viewed from behind.
In order to get the details of a certain character just right for these higher quality figures and preserve articulation, layered pieces are sometimes used to build certain areas. The upper body portion for instance uses three layers: the torso with the blue corset, the purple jacket, and finally the lower portion of the corset which is removable. All three of these can be separated, allowing for new looks for photos and display when attaching back just one or two of them to the main body. Figma figures also use standardized joints, so many figures can be combined to make a custom one.

I have many more to add here in the coming weeks, with brand new releases like the Bloodbourne Hunter and 2B from Nier Automata (Bring Arts brand) scheduled for next month assuming there aren't any delays.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is the sinister antagonist of the Black Rock Shooter anime, Dead Master. The figure features three face plates, two green flame skull additions with stands, scythe main weapon, and claw hands.
Figma action figures use nearly universal body joints that can be interchanged between all their figures allowing heads, arms, legs, and rarely some face plates to be swapped. Occasionally you'll run into specialized joints such as the newer shoulder joint box or ones that are the same design but are thinner / smaller versions of the same joint, what I call mini joints. Of course sometimes some pieces just won't fit with others due to design, especially the female ones with chunky thighs.
Even if a joint snaps or gets damaged replacements are easily available from online shops, though genuine Figma branded ones are harder to find and most come as a bulk random handful of joints. In the worst cases when I need a certain one that is hard to find such as the mini joints I'll just take a regular version of it and sand it down; with some work, you'll never be without the tools needed to keep the figures in complete shape.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is the expert marksman of Sword Art Online, Sinon. Included with this figure are three face plates, two firearms, a blast effect piece for the pistol, and an additional head for the body and replacement stock for the rifle.
Some Figma figures include well done mini firearms that the figures can hold and pose with. The artist in this case made the effort to include many welcome details: colored wood portions and raised / lowered bipod pieces for the rifle, dimpling on the pistol magazine similar to a real one along with detailed slide, and a secondary stock for the rifle with adjustable position. These mini weapons aren't made specifically for the figure they come with and can be used with other Figma figures that have the appropriate grasping hands to hold them.
One thing to keep in mind though, like all miniaturized pieces be careful when handling them so they don't get damaged.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is one of the main characters from Expelled From Paradise, Angela Balzac. The figure comes with three face plates, her pistol, a pixel chibi figure, and the regular Figma accessories (hands, display stand). Also included is a GoodSmile preorder bonus face plate.
Before a new Figma figure is released, the GoodSmile company that distributes the figures in Japan occasionally offer preorder bonuses for individual figures, ranging from an exclusive face plate to a mini figure. The items are free and are only given with preorders as far as I know, and buying them secondhand as you can imagine adds value to the figure they come with or can be a little profitable on their own. Most new figures won't have a bonus available, but it's something worth noting if you're looking at buying new release figures.
These bonuses never looked right to me though, and they should be included with the figure especially if it's something like a face plate or weapon that is part of the original characters known artwork or persona.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is Asuna from Sword Art Online in her online costume. The figure comes with three face plates, blue wings attachment, a sheathed and unsheathed set of blades, wand, and the standard Figma accessories.
Most Figma figures with a few exceptions have a small hole on the back of the figure where the display stand and special accessories can be attached such as wings. For those that don't have one the figure will usually come with a claw-like clear piece that attaches to the stand to hold the figure, though it's much less useful for photos since the claw stands out too much. Since most back accessories only need the hole to be mounted, a set of wings from one figure can be used with nearly all other figures as long as there is enough clearance, giving you more options for creating unique photos or custom figures.
I've finally gotten a dedicated camera though I will start using it exclusively starting with the next figure, I made this set a few days before buying. Images 0202 and 0204 (the last two pictures) are taken with the new camera using the Scene mode with a vivid color setting and ISO set at 1000 in low light mode with natural sunlight through a window, and they were taken without a tripod or anything to steady the camera. I'm really impressed with the picture quality, and it's far easier to set up and use than my previous camera, which was just a tablet with a USB mouse attached.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma comes from the world of Black Rock Shooter, the devilish Black Gold Saw. The figure comes with three face plates, four pairs of unique claw hands, her signature oversized blade, and the display stand.
Figma's large catalog of figures includes over 450 articulated figures, though some have the standard model number such as 011 for the eleventh figure in the main line, you will no doubt see one with an SP or EX label instead. SP labeled figures such as Black Gold Saw are special edition versions that usually come with bundled merchandise such as video games or are unique variants, while EX labels are for unique figures sold through special events or vendors, and would normally not be found in regular stores.
There are many US importers that bring both styles over so they seem just like any other Figma figure , but they stand out on their own for being very unique versions of an existing character in the main lineup or real stand outs such as the upcoming Warspite figure with a transforming chair and replacement legs.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
We'll take a short break from the female figures, so today's Figma is the prankster magician Kaito Kid from Magic Kaito 1412. The figure includes two faces, various hand accessories(rose, playing card, dove), his card gun, replacement suit edges, and standard Figma accessories.
Growing up I used to watch the old Detective Conan / Case Closed anime show on Cartoon Network. Episodes are structed in case of the week format, where a young detective solves various cases by uncovering the detailed though convoluted ways the criminals go about commiting their crimes. Magic Kaito can be considered a parallel series since they take place in the same universe, and share the similar structure along with some of the same characters doing camoes. It's a really fun show especially if you enjoy magic and comedy.
I've posted a link to the first episode on YouTube here for those that want to start watching:

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
But seriously, I admire the work of those costume designers for anime characters. Some really sharp-looking and inventive outfits in that genre.
Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
It's always impressive to get any new figure since they replicate the character so well, the Kazanari figure with the blue outfit fleshes out every part of the original design.
The next figure I'll post is of a martial arts master.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is martial arts icon Bruce Lee. The figure comes with three face plates, two miniaturized nunchuks, and the standard Figma accessories.
Figma's lineup includes a select few real people as figures, including Michael Jackson in his thriller costume and Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Growing up I watched a lot of movies, though one of my favorites that I watched many times was The Big Boss starring Bruce Lee. His style is very well replicated with the figure: all three face plates include expressions found on movie posters and advertisements as well as from well known scenes, the hip section has been designed in a way to allow for incredible range of motion to really get his kicks high, and the nunchuks included have mini chain links for authentic movement.
If you haven't seen any of Bruce Lee's movies, The Big Boss and Return of the Dragon are my favorites and can be viewed online via streaming or purchased from online retailers on DVD.
Here is a short clip from a well known scene in The Big Boss, the ice factory fight (no story spoilers are in the clip):

Today's Figma is Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The figure comes with three face plates, sword and shield with scabbard, and the standard Figma accessories.
Figma's figure lineup contains characters from three major sources: television, pop culture, and video games. For their video game offerings The Legend of Zelda contains a large number of variants for link, from his kid form in A Link Between Worlds to his tween look from Skyward Sword. The Twilight Princess variant is the one that sticks out the most due to the more realistic appearance compared to the others, with Link having a gritty look with less caricatured facial features.
Zelda herself is also available as a Figma figure you can pair with Link, though Sheik is not available which is a real shame.

Re: Figma Action Figure Collection - Complete Photo Sets
Today's Figma is the gothic combat master Black Rock Shooter. The figure comes with two face plates, her long cannon, sword, two stands, secondary hair style, and the standard accessories.
If it hasn't gotten obvious, Figma figures mostly consist of female characters mostly due to the larger variety of available unique designs to choose from. In most anime for instance there will be at least two guy characters (the hero and his best friend or relative) and at least five female main characters not including numerous side characters. This isn't a big downside since you have a lot to choose from of either gender, and most options are great well known characters such as Phoenix Wright and Hatsune Miku. Even if you aren't familiar with any of the characters, the figures are so well made that you can easily find favorites while browsing through the website.
