Missing TPE plug repair
Missing TPE plug repair
Next came the unpleasant part, both for me and Lady x. I grabbed a tube with 25mm outer diameter and, well, I think you know where it went. But as in real life always lubricate well when inserting. .
Now I can easily push the soldering iron to where I need it. Because of the spacer rings there is no big play between the tube and the soldering iron. And with my USB camera I can see what I need to do next. First the thread has to disappear. I take an aluminum rod and push the thread into the hole. A fiddly job, but it works. Next I cut a piece of TPE with the diameter and depth of the hole and push it into position with the aluminum rod.
Re: Missing TPE plug repair
Normally I use moderate temperatures between 140 and 170° C depending on TPE and manufacturer. (Note: I'm not sure if the display on my soldering station is correct, I always try the setting on a test piece first.) But this time the TPE should melt safely and not only on the surface. Therefore and also because of the large surface of the tool I have set the temperature to 250° C this time. The test piece immediately went liquid, but it didn't burn.
