Reducing the waist on pants/skirts to fit our dolls (youtube videos)

Post by MinniMagg »

I have a sewing machine and am kinda proficient with it. But trying to put 'Darts' (or cutting or V sections and sewing then back together) is nearly impossible with my entry level machine. It just isn't powerful enough to go through multiple layers of denim.

And NOW I CAN LEAVE IT IN THE CLOSET! Thanks to these two very simple tutorials on YouTube. It's VERY simple hand sewing that any of us can do. Now it does take some heavy duty thread as you have to pull sections together (were the "V" shape is in the inside). I had this from Walmart (Harbor Freight used to carry them, but I can't find a link)

the thread is really strong. I'm sure a sewing supply place, like Joanne Fabrics would have something like 'Carpet thread' that is thicker and stronger than regular thread. But I am going to use this product:

here is a link to Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Swift-Sewing ... /134750740
or it can be bought on Amazon too

These two videos will make fitting the waist SIMPLE! Lord have I been searching for something like this!
Watch these and pick one, or try both! Since you are not cutting out any material, if you screw up or want to make a change you can just cut the thread and pull the jeans/ pants back to their normal shape.

Turn your sound down as it's obnoxious on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVoL7Nzj45c

This video looks good too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwVfNV7BWm4

I've even got a pair of MY jeans that are baggy in the back and will probably use the 2nd video to make them fit.

Good luck! I will post any results as I do this. Hope you do too if you try it.

Great information. Thanks for sharing it. If your machine is weak, keep your eyes out (Marketplace, Craigslist, garage sales, 2nd hand shops) for an old Singer (328, 401, 403, 500, 501) or an early '70s vintage Kenmore machine. Most of these can be picked up inexpensively and they'll go through layers of denim and even garment leather easily. 8)
