Re: wooden ball jointed doll
found the cheapest way to make the shoulder: a wheel attachment you can you at home depot.
and i would only need servos and better sewing or stuff to attach it better and it could work for a while but i will have to test it rigourously to see if it's doesn't break easily. i will probably use kevlar and pushed buttons to make it work or put a surface to have more contact to the shoulder joint to sew and push buttons in

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
compared to the rock hard wood i was using, working with birch is like cutting throught butter!
i even could use a chisel without a hammer on it.
so i decided to remake the whole doll in birch and wood that is as soft for the exterior and have a inner metal skeleton. i'm almost finished building it, i only need to glue and screw the side of the torso and buy wood for the waist.
the legs will be in birch and all parts will be removable to make her into a cuddle doll with memory foam limbs and legs + tummy and stuff

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
i plan of making a block like last time and chiseling her out and making her chest and hips.
once it's done i will do the skeleton armature of steel (i will buy the steel in 2 months, i think)
all the limbs will be more or less like plates.
the chest will be a separate plate as last time
we see how this goes in the coming weeks

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
now i have used this as a template and expanded it so now i have body mesurements
this is 5.8ft
6.5ft
and 8ft
i will do the lower heights later
now i really messed up with over doing the doll with extra wood, turn out women are slimmer than i thought lol
as usual, the legs will be mostly decorative the rest will be serious.

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
torso is underway, everything within is the measurements
the stomach are perfect, i will just need to carve it out in a oval shape,
the hips will be done later, the back is underway (will be cut, the softer wood glued and screwed on and then carved out to get the perfect back). it's halfway done.
all this in 2-3 hours, i'm very surprised how fast it's going.
i'm surprised how little wood i need to make the dolls. i thought it would be more and now it's very light, i can pick it up with 1 arm.

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
i'm not giving up on the last iteration thought i have run into problems with the wood of the other one and screw coming loose
the chii doll is very small and is easy to work with, it's almost all white pine/soft wood
i might change things again with a foam core and stuff with more thinner wood instead
i also have another idea for a cuddle doll (image below)
the electronic stuff will be simple and under powered and tested for safety so everything is foolsproof
i will rework the other doll after the order is finished.

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
i ordered a raspberry pi, and i will buy 2-3 more, i will make something like that
Shin Megami Tensei IV samurai gauntlet
basically a monitoring arm computer thing.
i plan on putting a heart monitor on my wrist and a oxygen saturation on my little finger that i can unplug at need. it's basically to monitor my heart, oxygen and health because i want to see if i can find something on my health
The other raspberry pi will be a mini computer for the doll AI along with 1 or 2 SDD with a lot of knowledge
i will do the same thing as the other poster.
i will buy a head eventually

- Guts for my doll. been tired as fuck so i can't cut wood as often. The guts are made from dollarama big cotton balls, cost 1.25$ per bags, every leg of "guts" is 5 bags. it's very dense and thick. it's like muscle. The outside is a nylon sock or i forgot the name thing. the location is basically the stomach, the guts and the muscle layer all in one

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
folding the stuffing in 4 parts with vertical length is thick enough to not notice the wood underneath and give it a springy quality o the "fat"
i will make several "pouches" one for the back, 1 each for each side and i will make it specially for the ass and later will have to cut the copper tubes for the limbs.
this is going really fast now.

Re: wooden ball jointed doll
i bought polyester stuffing at wal mart for 35% bag and a 13$ bag.
yesterday and the day before i cut up a old bed sheet i bought from a seconhand shop.
i bought several bedsheets so I'm covered. i cut, sewn the 50% cotton/polyester (i think) into the foreleg dimensions: 60cm long, and 79cm wide. i added 4cm to each side so i can make a fold where i fold 1cm 2 times to protect from ripping apart.
so i sewn in it all with the dollarama pillow polyester who is thicker and more dense as base and added the polyester from dollarama who less thick, more fluffy and and bouncy. here the results, i'm very proud of it. i put a copper pipe bar as a leg bone. it's not "set" yet. i have to make a stop gap or something at the bottom so the copper pipe doe no rip or go throught the fabric.
here the result, the thigh is heavenly for pillow lap, super soft, springy, comfortable and really THICK
i cut up the arm entire length too for both arms and i only need to figure out how to make the elbow joint.
the shoulder joint i will have to figure out too because i bought small wheels similar to the other wheels that can spin to 360 degrees but these wheels, while smaller and the metal being less protruding and have a better shape, has no nut to set the wheel in place so it's clamped in. D:
i will use a wood bar and put a nut in it.
arms are next one day (as soon i find or make a elbow) and i will have to figure out a way to put the wooden hand on the pipes without losing the tension from the spring holding the wooden hands together.
