This is the range I was referring to specifically, but there were many others, some even going back to the 60's...
They need to bring these back!
Yes, they were great dolls for their time but I doubt they would sell today. You see they were very expensive - IIRC in 1978 the standing version (the most popular) cost £250 which at the time would have been around $500 USD. That's equivalent to well over $2000 today which would almost get you a midrange TPE girl. There was a solid (foam-filled) option for the standing version which was even more expensive and also being natural latex they didn't last that long no matter how careful you were with them. IMHO the later 1990's latex dolls such as the Domax model mentioned above were far better value for money and also had prettier faces. At one time there were quite a lot of models to choose from: Latex Lady, Letha Weapons, German Latex lady (which the Domax doll is based on), French Madame and also another French doll whose name we're probably not allowed to mention on TDF these days but older members will know the model I mean.

Incorrect - inflatable latex and vinyl dolls such as the Hygiene Vital range were widely advertised in UK men's magazines from the early 1970's. They could also be readily bought in licensed sex shops at the time. You may be thinking of the 1987 Conegate trial which led to a definitive ruling that sex dolls were not obscene and could not be subject to legal prohibition. In practice, this ruling had no effect on their continued availability at the time but has been extremely helpful in protecting doll importers in recent years from renewed attempts at repression.
Thanks for clearing that up. Can you provide an image of these type of dolls I cannot remember them, maybe because I was too young at the time.

I stand-by @Joe90 cause I travelled
to and from UK on 70s and 80s. The real life of London was that sex shops were unexistent.
Paris (Pigalle) and Amsterdam (Red Lights) were flooded with sex shops and you could find everything, from prostitutes to peep-shows, illegal stuff, no limits.

UK, Soho... zero

I dont know legal laws prevailing at the time but London seemed to have a moral code of not allowing XXX marketing

In the early 1990s I use to shuttle from Rotterdam to Harwich by ferry and UK customs-police would often interrogate me if I was carrying any pornography material. They were obsessed. They didnt ask me about drugs. Specifically they looked for sexual stuff. Guess if I had an inflatable I would have been jailed.

Funny in 1980 Duddley Moore starred in a blockbuster movie "Arthur" in which a scene with an inflatable doll at a motel got viral.
Im kind of like Larry David, speak my mind and that offends some but thats how I am

To quote the late Queen Elizabeth "Recollections may differ".

I posted in this thread because I wanted to shed some light on a topic under discussion about which I have some knowledge (having lived in the UK and being old enough to remember the sex shops and magazines in the 1970's). Unfortunately but predictably we are now in sight of the point where the discussion becomes an argument so I won't be posting anything further about this.

Im loving your thread.
Just posted my recollection of views.
I was 18yo in 1978 and travelled with my Boeing 747-200 airline captain father many times to different european capitals during my whole teenage years.

As you can imagine I was discovering sex and very interested in the subject. So in the main cities I was keen to visit Museums but also needed to know "where the action was" in early teens just porn magazines, later hookers and ...inflatable dolls, I bought one (Amsterdam) but it didnt impress me at all

I believe I never used the inflatable doll, it was not better than my plush doll made with pillows sewn to resemble a body. The plastic had awful rejection feelings when lying with her. Pillows worked better.

But I recognize the importance of inflatables in the Doll History, just as biplanes of the Wright brothers were to airplanes.

I remember showing the inflatable doll to colleagues, everybody laughed, it was more like a prank joke, and the Duddley Moore movie scene emphasized this. It was widely used as a prank.
I threw it in the bin when I return home.

Today when i show people my silicone doll they dont laugh anymore, they are just amazed and speechless.

In fact, the inflatable dolls were so much used in media as joke or party disposable props, that nearly everyone in the world knew an inflatable.

While the same is not true for current silicone dolls. They are STILL unkown to the vast majority.
Many people think of an inflatable when you say "sex doll", its the general public reference.

Inflatables made the sex doll such a laughable joke that it is responsible for much of the present prejudice against dolls

Is this a scene from the movie, I haven't seen it and can't seem to find a clip of it.

Actually I have just realised that this is a scene from a different movie called "Foul Play 1978" with Dudley Moore that has Goldie Hawn in it.

My first memories of blow-up dolls are from the jokes school friends told in the 80s.

A 1989 episode from UK television's "Only Fools and Horses" always sticks in my mind when Del Boy acquires a batch of explosive dolls: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danger_UXD

The female character uses the term 'creepy', implying a negative attitude towards sex dolls dating all the way back to the late 80s.

Here's an old news report from 2013 where the UK Police pulled over a van because it had a blow-up doll in the back window: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -back.html

Describing my airbabe in the style of Obi-Wan Kenobi; "She's more patch now than doll, twisted and crumpled."
Scammer switching my doll in the style of Darth Vader; "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."
Discussing my dolls in the style of Alien... Woman; "You admire them." Me; "I admire their purity."
Tagline in the style of Robocop; "PART WOMAN, PART FANTASY, ALL DOLL!"

Yes! I love british sitcoms of that period, and certainly "Only Fools And Horses" is among the most popular of all time.

Incidentally in my years as an amateur actor in Sao Paulo in 1990s I played the main charachter (Brian Runnicles) in a theatre season of "No Sex Please, We Are British" tells a story of a couple and bank manager that gets entangled with pornography imported from Sweeden, magazines and inflatables., packed season and had lots of fun

I remember this Entity2020 and the Batman episode also. In this clip you can see that that the dolls faces have been modified to 'smiling' faces so that they would not offend the British viewers.

Have you noticed that the blow job 'O' face has been removed.
