Learning to sew doll clothes

Post by Mr_Rabbit »

Hey all,

As long as I have been a member, I have noticed a severe lack of clothing, and lingerie, available for dolls. Especially for those of us with small dolls. (Under 120cm). So, I have taken it upon myself, to learn how to sew. I will say without and hesitancy, that learning to sew isn't easy. Lots of mistakes, do overs, and making big pieces of scrap material, into small pieces of scrap material. My thought is that once I have mastered a few outfits, I can post tutorials on how to make them.

So here is what I am asking from you folks. I need suggestions. What outfits/Lingerie, would you like to see? Pic's would be great. If I can make it, I will post pics, and if possible, a tutorial.

I have a small doll as well, 125cm WM. While her particular figure makes it easy to find decent, well fitting clothes, I find it easier to alter existing clothes than starting from scratch. Mom taught all of us to sew, but the sewing machine is still a mystery to me.

Did a bra mod tutorial a while back: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=119874

My sewing machine hates me! With that said, I am learning quickly. You are right, it is really easy to alter a 12 months t shirt to fit her perfectly. But honestly, it is just as easy, to make her one.

I made her a pair of stocking out of a pair of argyle socks. I think they turned out well.

Yep, she sure does make cute look easy. I like those stockings. Re-purposing clothes is another great way make new outfits for smaller dolls. Made this dress for my Jyoti from one on the wife's old tank tops.

Youtube sewing channels and the web are good for starting tutorials. Also it helps to know your machines fabrics and patterns. Some fabrics need a more heavy duty sewing machine or serger to sew heavy materials.

I would recommend that you look at women's clothing websites and look at their best sellers and then think to yourself if a doll owner would want to see their doll in that article of clothing. Start in the lingerie section and then go to everyday clothes. Probably another good idea is to look at porn and the clothing that looks sexy in those that makes her more easily accessible for the sex part.
