This 25-inch 2014 product is interesting... would it lead to full-size inflatable love dolls of real people? TPE is possible but I've not been able to find the blow-up doll equivalent.

An inflatable sex toy sheep made the news in 2018 when a mother bought it by mistake from Amazon for her five-year-old's school nativity. The media reported the product was removed from sale but it's still available to buy from the online giant as I type this post:

Was that the origin of the "House of Wax" horror movie? I remember newspaper reports about an "acid barrel murderer" (in 1980th?), who kept body parts of his killed people on a kind of shrine until they rotted too badly. That's more the Hannibal Lecter kind of stuff.

The Celts used to keep the mummies of their dead ancestors (likely by natural death, not murder) in their house as a type of funeral to keep their spirits in the family. Apparently later the religion changed, so the mummies got buried in peat bogs, where archeologists later found them.

Hard to verify but I found a blog about an advert for inflatable sex devices dating back to the Victorian era: The Victorians and the Blow Up Doll Femme de Voyage

I do believe that this was a tongue in cheek ad created to titillate the men at the time. After all this was during a period of repressed sexual and moral attitudes.

Both PVC and manufactured latex was in its infancy at the time and it would be unlikely that it would have been used to produce a sex toy.

Attached is an article about this provocative advert. Like the Borghild project it is a fantastic piece of vintage sex history though. It made me delve deeper into this subject matter, which is fun.

I touched on this myself in the thread linked below. Other references to sex dolls are mentioned there.

It was a shame that the deleted scenes ended up on the cutting floor and have been lost forever.

Regarding the corpse vs. lifesize doll topic, I recently watched the movie "Swiss Army Man", which is a kind of trippy fantasy story about a man (Hank) stranded on an island, and while he attempts to commit suicide, a male corpse is flushed onto the beach that turns out to be sort of undead and has a few strange superpowers (often involving farts). The corpse Manny initially can only move his mouth and penis (not a typical zombie), and the lonely Hank treats him like a friend, talking to Manny about human behaviour, including how to love a women and much about what sex is. The corpse learns to speak and often stupidly repeats words Hank had spoken about (sometimes in embarrassing or accidentally insulting context).

The surreal plot is mostly about philosophy of life (not a horror thriller), but the way the corpse behaves (can move its face but not walk and needs to be dragged around, naively repeats parts of heard sentences and talks naively about feelings of making sex) blatantly resembles nowadays silicone lovedolls with built-in AI chatbot, those (unlike expected of a "real" robot) can only move their animatronic face and genitals, and pretend shallow smalltalk conversation full of sexual platitudes and sometimes alien argumentation. So it would not surprise me if the authors had experience with such a sex robot doll and its shortcomings.

During promo, Daniel Radcliffe indeed traveled with a lifesize dummy of the corpse Manny.
