Re: LOVE AND VIBES Marlene, Marina, Ava, Suzy, Aileen, Tanya, Lauren
A warning to those who leave jewellery on their dolls
I managed to stain my beloved Layna aka Marina again
She's worn her choker for three years which discoloured the plastic on her neck. It's hidden behind the choker so I'm not too fused. What I didn't see coming was the metal part going bad and leaving green marks on the vinyl in the middle of her chest
Here's the cause when I took a photo, placing the metal part of the choker on her body for show. The metal part normally hangs down her neck into that mess of hair. It used to lay it on her vinyl but not in recent months so I thought it was safe as there's never been any evidence of transfer. The metal was left on her chest after the photo was taken. Retired Layna hangs out on the floor with the other dolls and is left for weeks at a time undisturbed. I do monitor her pressure daily and clear dust with an air blower:
One month later, I took another photo and this is when I noticed two stains on the vinyl as the choker cord moved. You can see the metal is covered in what looks to be grime. I hadn't noticed the metal had gone bad until it was too late. It can get a little damp during Winter in the doll room and I do monitor the conditions and temperature for red flags but this mistake slipped through:
After seeing the stain, I wet my finger and began to rub the dark marks. It helped and they have faded a little over the last two weeks since I discovered them. You might say "What stains?" ... well you can see the marks in certain light so I've posted a false color image to show that there is permanent damage. Sure, it's not comparable to covering a solid doll's bum cheeks in purple dye but it's still annoying. From my experience, TPE stains disappear over time but the vinyl ones won't budge:
I cleaned the metal restoring its shinny state. There was green residue on the tissue matching the marks on the vinyl. As for Layna, I'm not going to use snake oil for fear of adding more discolouring to her. I will keep wiping the area with water over the months and hope the stains fade. I'm also mindful that I could affect the plasticizer by repeated cleaning and scrubbing of the same spot.
