273A.1 Possession of child like sex dolls etc.
A person commits an offence if:
(a) the person possesses a doll or other object; and
(b) the doll or other object resembles:
(i) a person who is, or appears to be, under 18 years of age; or
(ii) a part of the body of such a person; and
(c) a reasonable person would consider it likely that the doll or other object is intended to be used by a person to simulate sexual intercourse.
It's the appearence of a doll or part of a doll that resembles an under 18 years of age to an unspecified person or persons and the "reasonable person" statement that provides an inspecting authority with all the leeway in the world to make an owner's life a living hell
There is the Australian Institute of Criminology set up under the auspice of the Department of Home Affairs that provides statements such as:
The sale of child sex dolls potentially results in the risk of children being objectified as sexual beings and of child sex becoming a commodity. Finally, there is a risk that child-like dolls could be used to groom children for sex, in the same way that adult sex dolls have already been used. There is no evidence that child sex dolls have a therapeutic benefit in preventing child sexual abuse.
Unfortunately this potentially negates any specialist pediatric resources being used successfully in court
