For at least a decade, researchers have speculated that sex with robots is just around the corner but that is yet to materialise


The man leans towards the woman on his couch. “What is your favourite meal?” he asks, his accent French. “Electricity,” she says, with a strong Scottish inflection. “It provides me energy and has a kick to it.”

The slight, bespectacled, increasingly bemused man peppers her with questions as they sit. Her blond hair gleams, her dark-rimmed eyes are placid, her lips a full and glossy pout. “Can I call you Charlotte?” he asks.

“Sure baby, OK,” she says. “From now on my name will be Charlotte. I like it.”

The man is Cyrus North – a French YouTuber with more than 700,000 followers who describes himself as a technology lover and philosopher. He bought “Charlotte” for about €11,000.

Charlotte’s original name was Harmony, and she is a sex robot.


Not to be mistaken for a sex doll, which doesn’t move or speak, sex robots, or sexbots, are android, mechanical devices that use artificial intelligence and are designed for humans to have sexual intercourse with.

Humans (mostly men) have fantasised about sex robot-like beings since before Ovid wrote the tale of the sculptor Pygmalion bringing his creation, Galatea, to life. In more recent times, it is reflected in television series such as Westworld and films including Steven Spielberg’s A.I., Alex Garlands’s Ex Machina and Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. And who could forget the fembots in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, with their fully armed bazookas?


In 2022, Bedbible, a sex toy review site, published a study that claimed the sex robot industry is worth about $200m, and the average price, the company said, is $3,567 per sexbot.

Well, 3500 for a sex robot doesnt look much, thats what better silicone dolls cost. I dont think you will get in the next years a real robotic doll that moves like the robots from boston dynamics.

We refrained from creating sexbots as they can be hacked and could kill us. All joking aside, it is technically feasible but not yet economically so still a few years to go. On the other hand I like my dolls as they are - dolls. And with robots and AI come different challenges as Asimovs laws of robotics or ethical questions which is a can of worms I don‘t dare to open.

Real sex robots are still pretty far, I mean, we barely have dolls with functioning basic movements. Having an affordable, reliable (and I emphasize reliable) animatronic sex doll with a bunch of preset movements would be a massive breakthrough already, but I believe that too is still a bit far away.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but I don't see this happening within my lifetime, anyway the technology really isn't there. If you look at the stuff that's out there it's really not that impressive, honestly the stuff at Disneyland looks smoother and more realistic than some of the stuff that you see on YouTube. None of these so-called AI robots can do anything outside of some pre-programmed responses, it's a bummer I was hoping that technologically we'd be further along by now, but it's not just the technology that's a problem it's all the self-righteous Karen's that would put a stop to it the minute they found out that these things were going to happen you've got enough people talking about how sex dolls are being abused by misogynistic men can you imagine if these things walked around and could talk.

No AI Robot has figured out to open a simple pull-down latch door handle yet, something my toddler did at a few months. The famous security guard Dalek looking robot ran itself right into a pond.

The last thing we want is our $10,000 robot doll trying to wash a dish on your behalf and zapping herself short!

What they call 'robots' actually working today are machines programmed to do few or only one very specific task, like spray paint evenly over the same exact vehicle over and over again, and the car is placed in the same exact position down to the last millimeter by the assembly line for the "robot" to spray.

Think of all the women lives that can be improved by not having to do street prostitution if the person can get a sex robot in future

On the other hand sex robots will improve sex between real people. Because the pressure on men will cease. Men will no longer need to chase females, try hard.. sex and friends will have a more natural attitude towards sex.
