It is going to vary by the TPE mixture that is used. Different formulas by different manufacturers and constantly changing them means there is no one answer or exact timeframe.

This the nature of the material. It can become dry and crack or sticky and melt.

If you want to make an investment, consider a quality silicone doll. I have dolls that are 10 plus years old and you would never know it.

Any chance this could be due to salt? Like salt in the air from the ocean eg.

Just a wild shot in the dark...

Yes, again, I am somewhat concerned with this. Especially with pictures of the head that turned into pudding! If this sort of thing happens to my doll closet it would indeed be catastrophic!
None of my dolls have a strong smell, or even smell at all practically, so I guess I can have a little comfort in that.
But still, very concerning nonetheless!

Well this thread took a really dark turn. I saw the first post the other day and figured it would end with "now we all know not to use THAT brand hair spray" or something. My condolences to those who have had a doll fall prey to the melting.
I'm a bit surprised none of the manufacturers have given an opinion, or even better a preventive measure.

It is the nature of the product. It has a lifespan. ALL the TPE dolls will expire after a certain amount of time. You can't prevent it from happening any more than you as a human can prevent aging and death.

I seriously hope to get at least a decade out of each of my guys before having to replace them with their 2.0 bodies and heads.

I'm so sorry to see what happened to your doll's head.

As others have mentioned, I think it must have had some sort of chemical or environmental reaction. (or a very bad mix of TPE).

I find this strange because I have a lot of dolls and the TPE of my older dolls, which are now almost 6 years old,
rather seems to harden slightly over time instead of softer.

This is just my observation here.
