Looks very interesting and rich of valuable contents! learning from a pro like you is surely way to go for most of us. Unfortunately I lost interest in doll photo shooting almost entirely. It´s still fun but in fact my pics don´t interest anybody but myself it seems. For whatever reason. So ATM doesn´t makes sense to get a paid membership, despite obviously getting great value for it in return. Maybe at a (much) later time. :glou:

But wouldn’t it have been easier just to take the doll to the beach and make a real picture? 🤔

you´re kidding, don´t you? Most of us neither have a beach or car available (me in example). Also what counts is composition techniques of various efforts and costs. I.e I always go lowest cost/efforts out of necessity (beeing unoccupied/low income/no car or transport) and try finding suitable expedients. It´s also about base ideas and techniques, usable for way different (non beach) doll scenes as well. Some my crappy examples (fake beach scenes):

Apologies I mean no offense, you made my point, but it’s still less costly to get a ride to the beach than have a studio with expensive lighting that you can fill with sand? No? you may as well do a full composition like you have done

Well, in pics above (room with thin sand layer on floor) I see little that is costlier than what I purchased during past years (i.e a 30-40 EUR 85W softbox light). Everybody (if having a car and beach nearby) can dump a doll into a car, haul onto a beach, then photo shoot it. Big deal. You do it how many times before it becomes... boring? Personally, I find it much more interesting to see creative solutions that can be applied without moving the doll from the apartment. Whether that creates more "interesting", doll focused images that appeal a majority of doll lovers is another question (of course). But here is where Val steps in and those who can afford and are interested should take this opportunity IMO. 8) I´d do to, but this offer comes too late for me unfortunately. :glou:

Yes, you do have a point! Of course it's easier to move the doll to the beach... The doll is around 36 kg (approx 80 pounds), and the sand is around 500 pounds. It took some time to fill the sand, and then get rid of it (lol, don't ask), but the point of this demo scene was to show the technique used, how to light, how to blend it in Photoshop etc, so that it can be used, and reused... For instance, the sand shots taken can be blended with lots of scenes, not just beaches. Often, a technique can be applied to other similar scenes as well, (without sand), for instance, taking a photo of a doll sitting on a chair at home, and blending it with a photo elsewhere...

Hey Ragnar66, thank you for your feedback! Sorry you've lost your mojo, that happens to all of us, including me at times. I think it's a big deal that you still think it's fun though! And I think fun is the key... What kind of photos do you enjoy taking the most?

Well, those are super cute photos Ragnar66 (albeit a little fuzzy)... I like the eye contact and your doll has some cool aura about her. By the way, these are not crappy examples at all, it takes guts to show the world what you do, and you've just done that. You can be proud!

I've joined and don't really know what to expect, but definitely have some gaps in my knowledge of doll photography.
I am mostly interested in posing and perspective and hope you will release the continuation of the first video on the subject. It was good but I want more
I am kind of in the final stage of a beginner. I know a bit about lighting, camera settings and editing in Lighroom/photoshop. But for a long time I only had broken dolls to photograph (broken hip and one with unpossible steel wire) so posing has been really hard to practice and develop for me.
But now I have a new doll and shit, this is difficult to do.

Ps Are you based in Sweden? Då säger jag hej i så fall! :glou:

Hey, welcome aboard and glad you like the posing & perspective videos! Yes, more coming for sure... ;) Posing and lighting is something I'll cover a lot about, and also the camera, since we can change how the posing & lighting looks by moving the camera... Yes, I'm based in Sweden..! Hej, på dig också :)

Hey Val! Yeah, I´ve fun with everything creative and that transports emotions. (I´m amateur rock/metal musician since 43 years btw) Well, I like women who express self-confidence, strength and a well developed personality. That i.e could be women like film/series or real human characters that lived in history or today. I´ve great interest in history (and gathered knowledge) as well. And of course I like erotic and women who skillfully put this in scene. (not porn necessarily) :D Humour and something more bizarre is another thing I like. This as a very condensed description of my interests and what I aim for in my doll photography. Here´s another few photo examples that I think describes it quite well:

and two my postings giving a broader overview: viewtopic.php?p=2301948#p2301948 , viewtopic.php?p=2298700#p2298700 :glou:
